Best vlogging kit: camera, mic, stabilizer, light and stand

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

A good vlogging kit has five parts: a stabilized camera, a wireless mic, a grip or tripod, a light and enough storage and power. Built around the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, the simplest route is the Creator Combo ($604), which includes the camera, a DJI Mic 2 transmitter, a wide-angle lens, a battery handle and a mini tripod. Add a small LED light and a couple of fast microSD cards and you're set for most YouTube and travel vlogs.

Build a vlogging kit in order
Buy in this order. The Pocket 3 Creator Combo covers the first four steps in one box.

1. Camera

The Osmo Pocket 3 has a 1-inch sensor on a 3-axis gimbal, a rotating 2-inch screen, face tracking and 4K/120fps. Its gimbal replaces a separate stabilizer, which is why the kit stays small. For action and water vlogs, the Osmo Action 5 Pro is the alternative. With a phone, use the Osmo Mobile 6 gimbal.

2. Microphone

Clear audio matters more than anything else in a vlog.

  • DJI Mic 2 ($219): two transmitters, a receiver and a charging case. Each transmitter records 32-bit float audio internally as a backup. Transmitters connect straight to the Pocket 3 or Action 5 Pro.
  • DJI Mic Mini ($109): 10 g transmitters, two levels of noise cancelling and up to 48 hours with the case. Also connects directly to the Pocket 3 and Action 5 Pro.

Use the furry windscreens outdoors. See DJI Mic 2 vs Mic Mini.

3. Grip, tripod and stand

  • A mini tripod that doubles as a grip is the most useful vlogging accessory. It's in the Creator Combo.
  • A light stand or full tripod for sit-down talking-head videos at home.
  • The Expansion Adapter ($21) adds a cold shoe and an action-camera mount to the Pocket 3, so you can mount a light or mic and use Osmo Action mounts.

4. Lens

The Osmo Pocket 3 Wide-Angle Lens ($54) widens the view to 108 degrees, which fits more of you and the background at arm's length. It weighs under 4 g.

5. Light

A small battery LED light on the cold shoe fills shadows on your face indoors and at night. Look for adjustable brightness and color temperature. Facing a window is the best free light.

6. Storage and power

  • Two fast microSD cards (V30 or faster). 4K/120 fills cards quickly.
  • A USB-C PD charger. DJI rates the Pocket 3 at 16 minutes to 80% with its 65 W charger.
  • A power bank for long days.

Sample kits

Kit Contents Approx. total (our prices)
Starter Pocket 3 + Mic Mini $592
Creator Pocket 3 Creator Combo + Expansion Adapter $625

What to skip

  • A separate gimbal for the Pocket 3. It already has one.
  • Cheap wired lavalier mics with long cables, which limit movement.
  • Heavy ND filter sets unless you film a lot in bright sun. See ND filter vs Black Mist.
