Can DJI Care Refresh be transferred to a new owner?

UPDATED NOVEMBER 2026

Not to a different drone, but it does stay with the drone you sell. DJI Care Refresh is bound to the product's serial number, so the plan can't be moved to another drone. When you sell a drone with an active plan, the coverage stays attached to that serial number, and DJI support has said that a buyer of a used drone can still use an active plan. Flyaway coverage is the exception to watch: it needs the drone bound to the new owner's DJI account.

DJI Care Refresh transfers
DJI calls Care Refresh non-transferable, meaning it can't move to another product. It is bound to the serial number, so an active plan remains with that drone.

What "non-transferable" means

DJI's purchase terms say a plan can't be transferred after purchase. In practice that means you can't move it from your old drone to a new one, or from one serial number to another. You buy a plan by entering the product's serial number, and that's where it lives.

The drone itself can change hands. Since the plan follows the serial number, a buyer gets whatever coverage time and replacements are left.

Selling a drone with Care Refresh

Do these before you hand it over:

  1. Check what's left. Look up the plan's end date and remaining replacements. See check DJI Care status.
  2. Give the buyer the paperwork. Pass along the Service Agreement email or number and your proof of purchase. DJI may ask for them during a claim.
  3. Unbind the drone from your DJI account. In DJI Fly, go to Profile > Device Management. DJI support recommends the seller unbind so the buyer can bind their own account.
  4. Tell the buyer to bind it to their account and controller right away.

An active plan with replacements left is a real selling point. List the end date and how many replacements remain.

Buying a used drone with Care Refresh

  • Ask for the serial number before you pay, and check the plan status yourself.
  • Make sure it's unbound from the seller's account. A drone still bound to someone else causes problems with both flyaway claims and ownership.
  • Bind it to your account and controller before your first flight.
  • Know the region rule. DJI requires the plan and the product to be bought in the same country or region, and service is usually only available there. A plan bought overseas won't usually be serviced in the US.

Flyaway coverage after a sale

DJI's flyaway replacement only works if, before the flyaway, the drone is bound to the claimant's DJI account and its controller. DJI says binding an aircraft to an account means that account's owner has ownership of the aircraft. If the drone is still bound to the seller, the buyer can't file a flyaway claim. Bind on day one.

After a replacement

When DJI replaces a drone under Care Refresh, the remaining coverage continues on the replacement unit. You don't need to buy a new plan for it. Claims are covered in how to claim DJI Care Refresh.

Can a new owner buy a new plan?

Possibly. DJI sells a first plan only for products that are new and not activated, drones activated within the last 48 hours, or handhelds activated within 30 days. A used drone will almost always be past that, so DJI asks for a video verification first. See can you buy Care Refresh after purchase.

For a new drone, add a plan at checkout, such as Care Refresh for the Mini 4 Pro. Full coverage details are in DJI Care Refresh explained.
