You can buy DJI Care Refresh for a drone while it's brand new and not activated, or within 48 hours after activation. After that, DJI requires a video verification before it will sell a plan for that drone. To activate a plan you bought as a code (for example from an authorized dealer like us), bind it to the drone's serial number on DJI's Care Refresh activation page. Flyaway coverage also needs the drone bound to your DJI account and controller.

The purchase rules
DJI lets you buy a first plan if the product is one of these:
- Brand new and not activated
- A drone (aircraft) activated within the last 48 hours
- A handheld product (like an Osmo Pocket) activated within the last 30 days
Otherwise, DJI says to apply for video verification or contact DJI support. Two more rules:
- The plan must be bought in the same country or region as the product.
- A plan can't be transferred after purchase.
Three ways to buy
- With the drone at checkout. This is the simplest. Add the plan for your model, like Care Refresh for Air 3S or Avata 2.
- From DJI Store later: go to Service, then DJI Care Refresh, and enter the drone's serial number.
- As an activation code from an official or authorized store, which you then bind.
How to bind (activate) a code
- Activate the drone in DJI Fly first, and note the date. The 48-hour clock starts there.
- Find the aircraft serial number on the box or in DJI Fly. See check DJI Care status for tips.
- On DJI's Care Refresh page, choose Activate the Service.
- Sign in with your DJI account and follow the prompts to link the code to the drone's serial number.
- Watch for the Service Agreement email. It lists your plan's start and end dates.
Do this right away. A code sitting in a drawer doesn't cover a crash.
Bind for flyaway coverage
The 1-Year Plan includes one flyaway replacement and the 2-Year Plan two, but only if, before the flyaway, the drone is bound to:
- your DJI account, and
- its remote controller or goggles.
Do it in DJI Fly under Profile > Device Management. Only the bound account owner can file a flyaway claim, and it needs a flyaway report made with the bound controller.
Missed the 48 hours: video verification
If the drone was activated more than 48 hours ago, DJI asks for a video verification before you can buy. You apply through DJI's Care Refresh purchase process, and DJI reviews your video before allowing the purchase. Once you receive the purchase notice, DJI says you have 72 hours to buy the plan. DJI doesn't publish a fixed list of video requirements, so follow the instructions DJI gives you when you apply, and contact DJI support if anything is unclear.
Our advice
- Buy the plan with the drone, or bind the code the same day you activate.
- Bind your account and controller in Device Management on day one.
- Keep the box label photo and your receipt with your Care Refresh email.
