D-Log M to Rec.709: how to color grade DJI footage

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

To convert DJI D-Log M footage to Rec.709, download the free official LUT for your exact camera from its DJI downloads page, balance exposure and white balance on the log clip first, then apply the LUT on a later node or layer. DJI publishes a D-Log M to Rec.709 LUT for each current drone and Osmo camera, including the Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S, Mavic 4 Pro, Osmo Pocket 3 and Osmo Action 5 Pro.

D-Log M to Rec.709
The basic DJI log workflow. Use the conversion LUT made for your exact camera, and correct the log image before the LUT, not after.

What D-Log M is

D-Log M is DJI's lighter log color profile. It records a flat, low-contrast image in 10-bit so you keep more highlight and shadow detail for grading. DJI describes it as a flat color profile, not a LUT. It looks gray until you convert it.

Rec.709 is the standard color space for normal HD and 4K video on phones, computers and TVs. A conversion LUT maps log footage back to Rec.709 contrast and saturation.

Official LUTs by camera

All are free .cube files on each product's downloads page at dji.com.

Camera LUT name on DJI's site
Mini 5 Pro DJI Mini 5 Pro D-Log M to Rec.709 LUT
Mini 4 Pro DJI Mini 4 Pro D-Log M to Rec.709 V1
Air 3S DJI Air 3S D-Log M to Rec.709 V1
Mavic 4 Pro Mavic 4 Pro D-Log M to Rec.709 V1 (plus D-Log LUTs)
Osmo Pocket 3 DJI OSMO Pocket 3 D-Log M to Rec.709
Osmo Action 5 Pro DJI OSMO Action 5 Pro D-Log M to Rec.709

DJI also offers "Rec.709 to Color Grading LUTs" packs for the Pocket 3 and Action 5 Pro: creative looks to apply after conversion. Use the LUT for your camera; each is matched to its sensor. Model guides: Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S, Mavic 4 Pro.

Camera settings for log

Setting Recommendation
Color D-Log M (10-bit, H.265 on drones)
ISO As low as possible, usually 100
Shutter About double the frame rate, with ND filters in sun
White balance Manual
Exposure Protect highlights; avoid underexposing

D-Log M ISO limits vary: 100 to 3200 on the Mini 5 Pro and Air 3S, 100 to 6400 on the Mavic 4 Pro's Hasselblad camera. On the Osmo Pocket 3, turn it on in Pro settings under Colors; see Pocket 3 D-Log M.

How to apply the LUT

DaVinci Resolve

  1. Project Settings, Color Management, Lookup Tables, Open LUT Folder. Copy the .cube in and click Update Lists.
  2. Node 1: exposure, white balance, contrast tweaks on the log image.
  3. Node 2: right-click and apply the LUT.
  4. Node 3: creative look, saturation, vignette.

Premiere Pro: Lumetri Color, Basic Correction, Input LUT, Browse to the file. Adjust white balance and exposure in the same panel.

Final Cut Pro: add the Custom LUT effect, choose the .cube file in the Inspector, then correct with the Color Board or wheels.

Phone editors: many apps accept .cube files. Apply the LUT, then lower intensity if it looks too strong.

Why order matters

A LUT expects correctly exposed, neutral log. If you brighten or warm the image after the LUT, highlights clip and colors shift. Fix the input first, convert second, style third.

Common problems

  • Too orange or blue: white balance was off in camera. Correct it before the LUT.
  • Noisy shadows: the clip was underexposed. Expose brighter next time.
  • Clipped sky: overexposed. Lower exposure in camera; it can't be recovered.
  • Wrong look: a LUT for another camera, or a D-Log M LUT on D-Log or HLG footage.
