The DJI Mic 3 is the step up: smaller 16 g transmitters, 400 m range, 32 GB of internal 32-bit float recording per transmitter, timecode, adaptive gain and up to four transmitters on one receiver. The DJI Mic 2 still covers most creators with 32-bit float backup, a touchscreen receiver and a lav input. The Mic Mini is the lightest and cheapest, but has no backup recording. Pick the Mic 3 for multi-person or multi-camera shoots, the Mic 2 for solid two-person work, and the Mic Mini for simple vlogs.

All figures are DJI's. The Mic 3's 400 m range is with Lossless Audio off; DJI rates it at 200 m with Lossless Audio on.
What the Mic 3 adds over the Mic 2
- Four transmitters, one receiver. Mono, Stereo or Quadraphonic (four separate channels) output, so a panel or a two-camera interview doesn't need two kits.
- Timecode in and out, for syncing with cameras and recorders. The receiver can also act as a timecode generator.
- Bigger backup. 32 GB per transmitter vs 8 GB, with dual-file recording (original plus processed).
- Adaptive Gain Control with an automatic clipping-prevention mode and a dynamic volume-balancing mode.
- Faster charging. DJI says the case charges transmitters and receiver to 80% in 18 minutes.
- Smaller, magnetic transmitters that clip in four directions.
What you give up
- Compatibility. DJI says Mic 3 transmitters and receivers don't work with Mic 2 or Mic Mini receivers, and the phone adapters don't swap either. Osmo cameras (Pocket 3, Action 4, Action 5 Pro) accept Mic 2, Mic Mini and Mic 3 transmitters directly.
- Battery per charge. The Mic 3 case charges the set about 2.4 times; the Mic 2 case about 2 times. Mic Mini still runs longest.
Where the Mic Mini fits
If you film yourself for social media, the Mic Mini gives you the same 400 m range in a 10 g transmitter for less than half the price of the Mic 2. You lose the internal backup, the receiver touchscreen and the lav input. See Mic 2 vs Mic Mini.
