Yes, the DJI Flip has Return to Home (RTH), but only when you fly it with a remote controller (RC-N3, RC-N2 or RC 2). Press and hold the RTH button on the controller, or tap the RTH icon on the left of the camera view and hold it. The Home Point records at takeoff once the Flip has a strong GPS signal, and you can update it mid-flight in DJI Fly under Settings > Safety. RTH isn't available in phone-only or palm control.

How the Home Point is set
- The Flip records the Home Point at takeoff when the GPS signal is strong. DJI Fly announces it with a voice prompt.
- Moved since takeoff? Update the Home Point in DJI Fly's Safety settings.
- Wait for the prompt before flying away. Without a Home Point, RTH can't work.
Set RTH altitude before every flight
In DJI Fly, go to Settings > Safety and set the RTH altitude above the tallest trees and buildings around you. You can't change it once RTH has started. Keep it within the legal limit of 400 ft above ground.
How the Flip flies home
| Distance from Home Point | What happens |
|---|---|
| Under 5 m | Lands immediately |
| 5 to 50 m | Turns and flies straight back at current altitude |
| Over 50 m | Climbs to RTH altitude (or stays higher if already above it), then flies home |
Obstacles: the Flip has a forward 3D infrared sensor. On a long return, if it sees an obstacle ahead, it climbs over it, then continues. If the obstacle is taller than the altitude limit, it brakes and hovers and you take over. If an obstacle is closer than 3 m, it backs up before climbing, and it can't sense obstacles while flying backward. On short returns (5 to 50 m) it brakes and hovers if it detects something ahead.
When it arrives, the camera tilts down and an AR shadow helps you see the landing spot. Landing Protection checks the ground and asks you to confirm if it isn't sure.
Three RTH triggers
- You press and hold the RTH button or the on-screen icon.
- Low battery: DJI Fly warns when there's just enough power to get home, then starts RTH after a countdown unless you cancel. If you cancel and keep flying, it auto-lands when the battery is critical.
- Lost signal: with Signal Lost Action set to RTH, the Flip flies backward 50 m along its route, then runs the normal RTH. If the signal comes back during that, it goes straight into RTH.
Cancel or steer
Press the RTH button once or tap the cancel icon in DJI Fly. During RTH you can speed up with the pitch stick; pulling it all the way back makes it brake and hover and exit RTH.
No RTH in palm or app mode
In palm control and phone-only Mobile App Control, DJI says RTH isn't supported. Keep the Flip in sight within the 30 m height and 50 m distance limits, and don't fly over water. It lands automatically on critical battery or if positioning fails.
Test it once
In an open field, fly out 60 to 100 m, set RTH altitude to clear everything nearby, then press and hold RTH. Watch the climb and return. If something seems off, read DJI Return to Home not working.
Need the controller? The Flip works with the RC-N3. See Flip controllers or shop the DJI Flip.
