How to set the home point and Return to Home on the DJI Neo

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Yes, the DJI Neo has Return to Home (RTH), but only when you fly it with a remote control device, such as the RC-N3 or goggles with a motion controller. In palm control and phone (Mobile App Control) mode there's no RTH, so keep the Neo close. With a controller, the Neo records its Home Point at takeoff when it has a strong GNSS signal, and you start RTH by pressing and holding the Flight Pause/RTH button.

Does the DJI Neo return home?
From DJI's Neo user manual. RTH works only with remote control devices. The Neo has no obstacle sensing, so set the RTH altitude above trees and roofs.

Set and update the Home Point

  1. Take off in the open and wait for DJI Fly (or the goggles) to say the Home Point is recorded.
  2. If you move during the flight, update the Home Point in DJI Fly's settings or the goggles' menu.

Near tall buildings or under trees, DJI notes the Home Point shown on screen may be inaccurate. Start from open ground.

Start and cancel RTH

  • RC-N3: press and hold Flight Pause/RTH until it beeps. Press again to cancel. A single press brakes and hovers.
  • DJI Fly: tap the RTH icon on the left of the camera view, then press and hold.
  • RC Motion 3: press and hold the mode button. Press the lock button once to cancel.

During RTH you can only change speed with the pitch stick. Pull it fully back to brake, hover and exit RTH.

Set the RTH altitude

DJI's default RTH altitude is 30 m (98 ft). Set it in DJI Fly's safety settings before every flight.

This matters more on the Neo than on most DJI drones: the Neo has no obstacle sensing. It won't see trees, poles or wires on the way back. Set the RTH altitude above everything around you, and fly where the path home is clear.

How RTH flies

After RTH starts, the Neo brakes and hovers, then:

Distance from home What it does
More than 20 m Climbs to RTH altitude (or keeps a higher current altitude), flies home
5 to 20 m Flies straight home at its current altitude
Under 5 m Lands right away

DJI Fly shows an AR Home Point, AR route and the drone's AR shadow near the ground. Change them under Safety > AR Settings.

When RTH starts by itself

  • Low battery: a warning appears when there's only enough power to get home. RTH starts after a countdown unless you cancel. If you cancel, the Neo auto-lands later when the battery can only cover the descent.
  • Lost signal: with Signal Lost Action set to RTH, the Neo flies backward 20 m along its route, then runs RTH. If the signal returns while it backs up, it goes straight to RTH.

Without RTH: palm and phone flying

In palm and Mobile App Control, the Neo is limited to 30 m high and 50 m away. It lands by itself on critically low battery, if positioning fails, or after a collision it survives. Land on your palm or with the app's land button. Watch it the whole time.

RTH not working?

  1. No controller or goggles connected, so RTH isn't available.
  2. No Home Point, because GNSS was weak at takeoff.
  3. Weak positioning puts it in ATTI mode, where it can drift. Land as soon as you can.
  4. Wind above the Neo's rating (8 m/s). Turn back early.
  5. Auto landing already started. RTH can't start during auto landing.

More fixes: DJI Return to Home not working and Neo not connecting.
