No. The DJI Flip is not waterproof and has no IP rating. DJI's FAQ says to avoid contact with water because it can damage the drone, and if it starts to rain, to return and land as soon as possible and let the Flip dry fully inside and out before flying again. You can fly over water with a controller, carefully, but DJI says never to fly over water when using palm or app control.

Rain, snow and fog
DJI's flight rules for the Flip say not to fly in rain, snow, fog or strong wind. Water can get into the motors, the battery contacts and the vents, and the sensors can misread wet or foggy surroundings. If you get caught out:
- Return and land as soon as you can.
- Power off and remove the battery.
- Wipe the outside with a soft, dry cloth. Don't use alcohol or cleaners.
- Let the drone dry completely, inside and out, before the next flight.
Flying over water
Water is hard for the Flip's downward sensors. They need a textured surface to hold position, and calm water or reflections can confuse them. DJI's guidance:
- With a controller: keep at least 6 m (about 20 ft) above water and keep strong GPS. Don't rely on obstacle sensing near water, glass or reflective surfaces.
- Palm control and app control: DJI says plainly, do not fly over water. In these modes the Flip may land automatically if it loses positioning or detects a collision, which over a lake means losing it.
- Avoid landing protection surprises. The Flip checks the ground before auto landing, and DJI notes surfaces that look like water can trigger it by mistake.
Practical tips: launch and land on dry ground, set Return to Home altitude above any trees on the shore, and turn back with more battery than usual. More in flying a drone over water.
What if the Flip lands in water?
Take the battery out immediately and don't try to power it on. DJI's manual warns that turning on a drone that has been in water may cause permanent damage. Dry it and send it for inspection. See drone fell in water.
Water damage counts as accidental damage, so it isn't covered by DJI's standard warranty. DJI Care Refresh does cover water damage. In the US, a Care Refresh replacement for the Flip costs $39. See how to claim DJI Care Refresh and our repair desk.
Cold and damp weather
The Flip's operating range is -10 to 40°C (14 to 104°F). In cold, damp air, keep batteries warm until takeoff and watch for condensation when you bring a cold drone into a warm room. Let it reach room temperature before you open the case.
Better choices for wet conditions
No DJI consumer camera drone we sell is rated for rain. If you need to work in it, look at enterprise drones with an IP rating; see our enterprise collection. For everyday use, check the forecast and fly in dry weather. See can you fly a drone in the rain.
