Is the DJI Mavic 4 Pro waterproof? Flying in rain and over water

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

No. The DJI Mavic 4 Pro isn't waterproof, and DJI doesn't give it an IP rating. DJI's FAQ says to avoid contact with water because it may damage the drone, and if it starts to rain during a flight, return and land as soon as possible, then let the drone dry fully inside and out before using it again. Flying over water is fine with care; flying in rain isn't.

Mavic 4 Pro and water
DJI's Mavic 4 Pro FAQ says it isn't waterproof. If rain starts, land as soon as possible and dry the drone fully before flying again.

What DJI says

  • FAQ: not waterproof. Avoid water contact. Land if it rains, and dry the drone completely.
  • Flight conditions: DJI lists strong wind (12 m/s or more), snow, rain, lightning and fog as conditions not to fly in.
  • Camera care: don't let the camera touch or sit in water. If it gets wet, wipe it with a soft, absorbent cloth.
  • After a water landing: DJI warns that turning on a drone that has fallen in water may cause permanent damage.
  • Cleaning: don't clean the drone with a wet cloth. Liquid can get inside and short the electronics.

Why rain is a real risk

The Mavic 4 Pro has cooling vents, open motor housings, a 95.3 Wh battery with exposed contacts and a gimbal with three cameras. Water can reach any of them. Rain also coats the vision sensors and the LiDAR window, which can confuse obstacle sensing and positioning. A few drops on a fast return usually do no harm, but don't launch into rain or drizzle.

If your Mavic 4 Pro gets wet

  1. Land and power off right away.
  2. Remove the battery and the microSD card.
  3. Wipe all surfaces with a dry, soft cloth. Don't use heat guns or hair dryers.
  4. Let it dry in a warm, dry room for at least a day, arms unfolded.
  5. Inspect for water marks, fogging inside the lenses or corrosion on the battery contacts.
  6. Test indoors at a low hover before a real flight.

If it lands in water

Don't power it on. Remove the battery immediately and don't charge or reuse it. Contact our repair desk or DJI support. Step-by-step: drone fell in water.

Care Refresh and insurance

DJI Care Refresh covers water damage, but DJI's warranty doesn't. Care Refresh coverage varies by model, so check DJI's Care Refresh page or ask us whether a US plan is available for the Mavic 4 Pro. Without one, a hull insurance policy is the way to cover a dunking if you fly over lakes, rivers or the ocean. See Mavic 4 Pro protection.

Flying over water safely

  • Keep battery margin. Set RTH altitude above any obstacles and head back early. A low-battery forced landing over water ends one way.
  • Don't skim the surface. DJI warns that flying close to reflective surfaces like water or snow can limit the vision system, which the drone uses to hold position.
  • Take off and land on land, not from a moving boat. DJI says not to take off from moving objects such as cars or boats.
  • Keep the drone in sight and watch for wind over open water, which is often stronger than on shore.
  • Rinse salt spray off the props and body with a damp (not wet) cloth after coastal flights.

Need a drone for wet conditions?

DJI's consumer camera drones, including the Mavic 4 Pro, aren't built for rain. Weather-resistant drones come from DJI's enterprise line. See our enterprise collection or contact us.
