To update the DJI Mavic 4 Pro, link the drone to its DJI RC 2 or RC Pro 2, connect the controller to the internet, and follow the update prompt in DJI Fly. The update takes about 10 minutes. You can also update the drone and controller separately from a computer with DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series). DJI posts the latest version and what changed in the release notes on the Mavic 4 Pro downloads page.

Check your current version
In DJI Fly, open settings and tap About to see the aircraft and controller firmware. Compare it with the newest release notes on DJI's downloads page. If DJI Fly shows an update prompt, you're behind.
Before you start
- Link first. DJI's manual says you can't update the firmware if the controller isn't linked to the drone.
- Get online. The controller needs a stable internet connection. A strong home Wi-Fi network beats a phone hotspot.
- Charge up. Start with well-charged drone and controller batteries so neither shuts off mid-update.
- Expect noise. DJI says it's normal for the gimbal to go limp, the status lights to blink and the drone to reboot.
Method 1: DJI Fly
- Remove the storage cover and power on the controller and drone.
- Connect the controller to Wi-Fi.
- Open DJI Fly and tap the update notice. Follow the steps on screen.
- Keep both devices powered and the app open until it finishes.
- Update every battery. Battery firmware ships inside the aircraft firmware. Insert each spare and power on so DJI Fly can bring it up to date.
- Recheck your camera settings and button assignments before the next shoot.
Some features depend on matching firmware. For example, DJI says Unfold Arm to Power on needs the latest aircraft firmware, battery firmware and app.
Method 2: DJI Assistant 2
- Install DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) from DJI's downloads page.
- Power on the drone and connect it to the computer with a USB-C cable.
- Launch Assistant 2 and log in with your DJI account.
- Select the device, click Firmware Update and pick the version.
- Wait for it to download and install. Don't unplug the cable.
- Repeat with the controller connected.
If the update fails
- Restart the drone, controller and DJI Fly and try again.
- Check the link. Make sure the controller and drone are still linked.
- Fix the internet connection and stay in the app during the download.
- Free up storage on the controller so the package can download.
- Update DJI Fly on the controller if it offers an app update.
- Switch to Assistant 2 with the official data cable or a reliable USB-C data cable, on a different port.
- Still stuck, or the drone won't boot? Stop and contact our repair team.

Updates and the US
The Mavic 4 Pro was FCC-authorized before the December 2025 Covered List change, though DJI didn't launch it officially in the US. Already-authorized drones stay legal to own and fly, and in May 2026 the FCC allowed firmware and software updates for them to continue until January 1, 2029. See Is DJI banned in the US?.
