How to tilt and rotate the camera on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

To tilt the DJI Mavic 4 Pro camera up or down, turn the gimbal dial on the DJI RC 2 or RC Pro 2, or press and hold the DJI Fly screen until the gimbal bar appears and drag it. To rotate (roll) the camera, hold C1 and turn the right dial, which is the default combination in DJI's manual. To aim left or right, turn the drone itself with the yaw stick.

Mavic 4 Pro camera controls
Default controls from DJI's Mavic 4 Pro manual. You can reassign gimbal roll to other custom buttons, or set the camera control dial to roll.

Tilt the camera

  • Gimbal dial: the quickest way. Turn it slowly for smooth reveals.
  • Touchscreen: press and hold the camera view until the adjustment bar appears, then drag.
  • Recenter: assign Recenter Gimbal to a custom button under Control > Button Customization in DJI Fly.

During Return to Home, DJI Fly tilts the camera toward the return route automatically. Touching the gimbal dial or recentering stops that, so you may lose the AR route view.

Roll the camera

The Mavic 4 Pro's gimbal supports roll rotation, so you can turn the frame during a shot, not just level it.

  1. Hold C1 on the controller.
  2. Turn the right dial to roll the camera.
  3. Let go to stop.

You can move gimbal roll to other custom buttons, or set the camera control dial to control roll instead of zoom. Go to settings, then Control > Button Customization.

Automatic rotation with Cruise Control

Cruise Control can keep the gimbal turning at a steady speed:

  1. Assign a custom button to Cruise Control.
  2. Start turning the dial to roll or tilt the gimbal.
  3. Press the Cruise Control button. The gimbal keeps rotating at that speed and direction.

DJI recommends setting the right dial to gimbal roll for this. The rotation stops when the gimbal reaches its movement limit. It's an easy way to get a smooth spinning shot while you fly a straight line.

Vertical shooting

The Mavic 4 Pro shoots horizontal and vertical. On the RC Pro 2, DJI says you can rotate the controller's screen for a quick switch. During True Vertical Shooting, DJI notes the drone accelerates more slowly, has a lower top speed and needs more room to brake.

Follow and FPV gimbal modes

In DJI Fly, open settings, then Control:

  • Follow: keeps the horizon level, or holds the roll angle you set. Use it for most video.
  • FPV: the gimbal rolls with the drone as it banks, for a first-person feel.

Gimbal care

From DJI's manual:

  • Remove the storage cover before powering on, and put it back afterward.
  • Launch from flat, open ground. Grass or uneven surfaces can block the gimbal and trigger protection mode.
  • Don't push the gimbal by hand after power-on.
  • Big tilt angles plus hard braking or acceleration can trigger limit protection, which tips the camera down.
  • In strong wind or at high speed, roll and vertical shooting may hit their limits.
  • A gimbal wet from fog or cloud recovers once dry.

If you see a gimbal error, read Mavic 4 Pro gimbal motor overloaded or DJI gimbal not level. For zoom, see how to zoom on a DJI drone.
