How to tilt and rotate the camera on the DJI Mini 4 Pro

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

To move the DJI Mini 4 Pro camera, turn the gimbal dial on the controller to tilt it up or down, from straight down (-90°) to 60° up. You can also press and hold the DJI Fly screen until the gimbal bar appears and drag it. To rotate the camera for vertical shots, tap the Landscape/Portrait switch in DJI Fly, or press the RC-N2's customizable button twice. To look left or right, turn the drone with the yaw stick.

Mini 4 Pro camera controls
From DJI's Mini 4 Pro manual. Tilt range is -90° to +60°, and the gimbal rolls to -90° for portrait. Button functions can be changed in DJI Fly.

Tilt the camera

  • Gimbal dial: on the RC-N2 and DJI RC 2 (and the RC-N3). Turn slowly for smooth reveals.
  • Touchscreen: press and hold the camera view, then drag the bar up or down.

Straight down is ideal for top-down shots of beaches, roads and rooftops. Tilting above the horizon helps when you fly low under trees or bridges.

Quick buttons on the RC-N2

DJI's manual lists these defaults for the RC-N2's customizable button:

  • Press once: recenter the gimbal or point it straight down.
  • Press twice: switch between landscape and portrait.

Hold the customizable button and turn the gimbal dial to zoom. Change button functions in DJI Fly under settings, then Control > Button Customization.

On the DJI RC 2, the camera control dial handles zoom by default; you can reassign it in the same menu.

Rotate for true vertical

The Mini 4 Pro's gimbal rolls the camera to -90° for portrait mode and back to 0° for landscape. That gives full-resolution vertical photos and video for social media, with no cropping. Tap the Landscape/Portrait Mode Switch in DJI Fly. See Mini 4 Pro vertical.

Turning the camera left or right

The pan axis isn't under your control; it stabilizes automatically. To aim sideways, yaw the drone with the left stick (Mode 2). For a smooth pan, switch to Cine mode, or use FocusTrack Spotlight to keep a subject framed while you fly.

Follow vs FPV mode

In DJI Fly, go to settings, then Control:

  • Follow: keeps the gimbal level with the horizon while you adjust tilt. Best for most shots.
  • FPV: the gimbal moves with the drone as it flies forward, for a first-person feel.

Gimbal moves on its own during RTH

During Return to Home, DJI Fly tilts the camera toward the return route automatically, and points it straight down when the drone reaches home. If you touch the gimbal dial or recenter, it stops adjusting and you may lose the AR route view.

Gimbal care

From DJI's manual:

  • Remove the propeller holder and gimbal protector before powering on. Refit them for storage.
  • Take off from flat, open ground. Don't push the gimbal after power-on.
  • Don't attach anything to the gimbal except official accessories.
  • Keep sand and dust out of the motors.

Horizon tilted or gimbal error?

Calibrate the gimbal in DJI Fly under Control with the drone on a level surface. For a crooked horizon, see Mini 4 Pro horizon. For errors, see Mini 4 Pro gimbal motor overloaded or DJI gimbal not level.

For camera settings, read Mini 4 Pro record video. Shop the DJI Mini 4 Pro or the DJI RC 2.
