Most Mavic 4 Pro pilots don't need propeller guards. DJI recommends its Mavic 4 Pro Propeller Guard for windless conditions and slow or indoor flights, where it reduces harm to people and damage to objects if the spinning props touch something. It adds 188 g (94 g per side), makes the drone much wider, and comes with limits: a 3,000 m maximum takeoff altitude, and DJI recommends staying under 120 m high and within 500 m.

When a guard makes sense
- Close work near structures, such as slow passes along a building or under a canopy.
- Indoor flights in large spaces like warehouses or event halls.
- Learning close-quarters control in calm conditions.
When to leave it off
- Wind. The guards add drag and weight. DJI recommends them for windless conditions.
- Normal outdoor filming. Obstacle sensing and careful flying protect you better in open space.
- High elevation above 3,000 m, where the guards aren't allowed.
- Long flights. Extra weight shortens battery life.
DJI also notes that APAS Nifty mode doesn't work properly with propeller guards fitted, so use Brake or Normal bypass.
How to fit the Mavic 4 Pro propeller guard
From DJI's product information:
- Unfold all the arms first. Don't fold the arms with the guards attached.
- Release the locks. Join the two guards marked LF (left front) and LB (left back).
- With the rear of the drone facing you, attach them from underneath the extended arms on the left side, so they form a complete guard around the arms.
- Close the locks until they click.
- Repeat on the right side with RF and RB.
- Take off and hover for about six seconds, until DJI Fly confirms the guards are detected. Then you're ready to fly.
With the guards on, the drone measures about 620 × 707 × 121 mm, so it won't fit in its bag assembled.
Flying with guards fitted
- Fly slowly; DJI warns propulsion is affected.
- Keep the 120 m height and 500 m distance recommendations.
- Check the guards after any bump. A cracked guard can hit a propeller.
Guards don't replace good props
A guard won't fix vibration from damaged blades. Replace chipped or bent Mavic 4 Pro propellers right away; DJI says to use only official props. See how to change DJI propellers.
Insurance matters more
A guard can save you a costly repair in tight spots. For crash cover, ask us whether US Care Refresh is available for the Mavic 4 Pro, or look at insurance. See Mavic 4 Pro protection.
