DJI Mavic 4 Pro QuickShots and intelligent flight modes

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

To use QuickShots on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro, tap the Shooting Mode icon on the right of the DJI Fly camera view, choose QuickShots, pick a sub-mode, drag a box around your subject and tap to start. The drone flies a preset move, records it, builds a short video and flies back to where it started. Press Flight Pause on the controller to stop at any time.

The automated modes in DJI Fly on the Mavic 4 Pro, from DJI's user manual. QuickShots and MasterShots fly the drone back to its start point when done.

Which QuickShots it has

DJI's Mavic 4 Pro manual describes QuickShots as a set of preset shooting modes and names two of them in its safety notes: Boomerang and Asteroid. Your DJI Fly app shows the full current list for your firmware when you open the QuickShots menu.

The two the manual calls out need the most room:

  • Boomerang: an oval path around the subject. Allow at least 30 m (99 ft) of clear radius and 10 m (33 ft) above the drone.
  • Asteroid: flies back and up, then returns, producing a "tiny planet" opening. Allow at least 40 m (131 ft) behind and 50 m (164 ft) above.

How to use QuickShots

  1. Take off in an open area with a strong GPS signal and good light.
  2. Tap the Shooting Mode icon and select QuickShots.
  3. Choose a sub-mode, then tap the plus icon or drag-select the subject.
  4. Tap the start button. The drone records while it flies the move, then returns.
  5. To stop, tap the stop icon or press Flight Pause once. The drone exits and hovers.

When QuickShots and MasterShots fail

From DJI's manual, don't use them:

  • Near buildings or where GPS is weak. The path becomes unstable.
  • When the subject is hidden for a long time or out of line of sight.
  • On subjects that blend into the background, like a person on snow or sand.
  • On subjects that are in the air or moving fast.
  • In very dark (under 5 lux) or very bright (over 10,000 lux) light.

If QuickShots is greyed out, check GPS, lighting and whether another intelligent mode is running.

The other intelligent modes

MasterShots. The drone picks a route from the subject type and distance, flies several classic moves, and returns. Same menu as QuickShots.

FocusTrack. Three modes: Spotlight keeps the camera on the subject while you fly; Point of Interest orbits it; ActiveTrack follows it. DJI's manual gives maximum follow distances of 20 m for people and 100 m for vehicles and boats, and recommends subjects moving under 12 m/s. Automatic Movement in ActiveTrack works with vehicles and people. The 168 mm tele camera supports only Spotlight. See Mavic 4 Pro ActiveTrack.

Hyperlapse. Takes photos at an interval and compiles them into a short video. See Mavic 4 Pro hyperlapse.

Waypoint Flight. Plan points on the map or by flying to them, set camera actions, and save the route to repeat later. See Mavic 4 Pro waypoints.

Cruise Control. Assign it to a custom button. Push the sticks, press the button, and the drone holds that speed. It can also lock gimbal rotation speed for smooth spiral and roll moves. Flight Pause exits.

Obstacle behavior

In FocusTrack's Point of Interest and ActiveTrack, DJI says the drone bypasses obstacles whenever its vision system is working, regardless of your avoidance setting. It can't avoid moving subjects such as people or vehicles, and DJI warns against fine branches, power lines, glass and water. Sensing is off in Sport mode. See Mavic 4 Pro obstacle avoidance.

Stay legal

The drone flies the move, but you're still the pilot. Keep it in sight, at or below 400 ft, and away from people who aren't part of the shoot. See flying over people. DJI also notes local privacy laws apply when filming others.
