DJI Mini 3 won't turn on or charge: what to do

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

A DJI Mini 3 that won't turn on almost always has a battery problem: it's empty or in hibernation, too hot or cold to charge, or not clicked in fully. Charge it with a USB PD charger at room temperature with the drone switched off, then press the power button once, press again and hold for two seconds. That brings most "dead" Mini 3s back.

Turn it on correctly

The Mini 3 uses a two-step press: press once, then press again and hold for two seconds. One short press only shows the battery level. The RC-N1 and DJI RC controllers use the same pattern. Remove the gimbal protector and unfold the arms first.

Battery won't charge or shows no lights

  1. Wake it from hibernation. DJI says the battery hibernates when a cell drops below 3.0 V or the level falls under 10%, to prevent over-discharge. New batteries ship in hibernation too. Charging wakes it.
  2. Charge with the drone off. You charge through the USB-C port on the aircraft with the battery installed. DJI says the battery can't charge while the aircraft is powered on.
  3. Use the right charger. DJI recommends its 30W USB-C Charger or another USB Power Delivery charger. The aircraft takes up to 30 W and its port accepts up to 15 V. A full charge takes about 64 minutes in the aircraft or 56 minutes in the charging hub.
  4. Check the temperature. It only charges between 5° and 40° C (41° and 104° F), and stops if the cells pass 55° C. Let a battery cool after flying before you charge it.
  5. Reseat it. If LEDs 3 and 4 blink together, DJI says the battery isn't mounted correctly. Remove it and click it back in.
  6. Read the protection codes. While charging, LED2 blinking means overcurrent or a short circuit, LED3 means overcharge or an over-voltage charger, and LED4 means too cold or too hot. Unplug and replug the charger for electrical faults. Temperature faults clear on their own.
  7. All four blinking means DJI considers the battery damaged.

Charging hub not charging

The Two-Way Charging Hub charges three batteries in sequence, fullest first, so a battery may be waiting its turn. Each port's LEDs blink while charging and go solid when full. If all the LEDs blink in sequence, the hub doesn't see a battery. DJI's Mini 3 manual lists the hub as compatible with the Mini 3 Pro Intelligent Flight Battery and Battery Plus. Clean the metal terminals with a dry cloth if you see buildup.

Remote not charging

  • DJI RC: charges over USB-C at up to 15 W (5V/3A), and DJI says a full charge takes about 1.5 hours.
  • RC-N1: charge over its USB-C port with a known-good charger and cable.

Then press once, and press again and hold to power on. If it still won't start, see DJI controller won't turn on.

When to replace or repair

Stop using a battery that's swollen, cracked or hot when idle: read swollen drone battery. Charge every battery fully at least once every three months to keep it healthy. If a charged battery that works in another Mini 3 won't start yours, the aircraft needs service. Start a repair. For general battery help, see DJI battery not charging and the Mini 3 guide.
