DJI Mini 5 Pro won't turn on or charge: what to do

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

A DJI Mini 5 Pro that won't turn on usually has a flat battery, a battery that's too hot or cold to charge, or a weak charger. Turn the drone off, charge it with a USB PD charger at room temperature, then press the power button once and press again and hold. A single press only shows the battery level.

Mini 5 Pro charge times
Approximate full-charge times from DJI's Mini 5 Pro specs with the DJI 65W Portable Charger at 25° C. Heat and a weaker charger make them longer.

Turn it on the right way

DJI drones and controllers use a two-step press: press once, then press again and hold for about two seconds. The drone beeps and the battery LEDs light up. If nothing happens, the battery is likely empty or not seated. Push it in until both latches click.

Battery not charging

  1. Charge with the drone off. The battery charges through the drone's USB-C port, or in the charging hub.
  2. Use a strong USB PD charger. DJI quotes its times with the DJI 65W Portable Charger: about 69 minutes for a standard battery in the drone and 94 minutes for a Battery Plus. A small phone charger can take far longer, or not charge at all.
  3. Check the temperature. DJI lists a charging range of 5° to 40° C (41° to 104° F). A battery straight off a hot flight or out of a cold car won't charge until it's back in range.
  4. Try another cable and outlet. Use a USB-C to USB-C cable rated for fast charging.
  5. Watch the LEDs. Blinking LEDs mean it's charging. A pattern that doesn't match the charge level usually means a protection mode: unplug, wait, and plug back in. Check the meaning in DJI's manual.

Charging hub not charging

The Mini 5 Pro Two-Way Charging Hub takes a USB-C charger (DJI recommends the 65W Portable Charger). Seat each battery fully, and clean the gold contacts with a dry cloth if they're dirty. Expect about 46 minutes for one standard battery and 115 minutes for three, per DJI. Battery Plus packs charge one at a time, so three take about 193 minutes. If the hub's LEDs don't respond at all, test with a different charger before blaming the hub.

Controller won't turn on

RC-N3: charge it over USB-C. DJI says a full charge takes about 2 hours with a 5V/2A charger. Then press once, press again and hold. If you charge your phone from the RC-N3 while flying, its battery drains in about 1.5 hours instead of 3.5.

DJI RC 2: its USB-C port takes up to 9V/3A. Leave a fully dead RC 2 on a good charger for at least 30 minutes before trying again.

More fixes: DJI controller won't turn on.

Batteries that sat for months

Lithium batteries self-discharge in storage. A battery left flat for a long time may refuse to wake up. Charge every battery fully at least every three months, and store it around half charged. If one battery is dead but the others work, the battery is the problem, not the drone.

When it's a fault

Contact DJI support or start a repair if:

  • A charged, known-good battery won't power the drone
  • The battery is swollen, cracked or hot while idle (stop using it: see swollen drone battery)
  • The drone powers on, then shuts off right away
  • It stopped working after a crash or water exposure

Crash and water damage are covered by DJI Care Refresh if you bought it. For general battery fixes, read DJI battery not charging. Everything else about this drone is in the Mini 5 Pro guide, or see the Mini 5 Pro product page.
