DJI Mini 3 operating temperature: flying in heat and cold

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

DJI rates the Mini 3 to operate from -10° to 40° C, which is 14° to 104° F. The RC-N1 controller has the same range. Below 41° F (5° C) battery capacity drops sharply, and below 14° F the battery can't be used at all. Above 104° F, don't fly. Batteries only charge between 41° and 104° F.

DJI Mini 3 temperature limits
DJI's published Mini 3 limits. The drone and RC-N1 share the same 14° to 104° F operating range; batteries charge only between 41° and 104° F.

What the numbers mean

Limit Celsius Fahrenheit
Operating temperature -10° to 40° C 14° to 104° F
Charging temperature 5° to 40° C 41° to 104° F
Ideal charging 22° to 28° C 72° to 82° F
Keep battery above (for takeoff) 20° C 68° F

DJI also notes the Mini 3 is a consumer product, not built to military temperature standards, so treat these as hard limits rather than suggestions.

Flying the Mini 3 in cold weather

DJI's manual is direct about the cold: battery capacity is "significantly reduced" between 14° and 41° F. Cold also cuts the drone's wind resistance, so a breezy winter day is harder on the Mini 3 than the same wind in summer.

  • Start warm. Keep batteries in an inside pocket or a warm car until you fly. DJI recommends a battery temperature above 68° F (20° C) for best performance.
  • Warm up before takeoff. Insert the battery, power on and let the drone sit for a minute. After takeoff, hover in place for a short while to bring the battery up to temperature.
  • Fully charge before you go. A partly charged cold battery drains fast.
  • Land early. Plan for shorter flights and land at 30% instead of 20%. Voltage can sag quickly in the cold.
  • Watch for moisture. Snow and fog count as moisture, and the Mini 3 isn't waterproof. See is the Mini 3 waterproof.

Flying the Mini 3 in heat

The upper limit is 104° F (40° C) air temperature. On a hot day the drone, controller and phone all heat up.

  • Shade the drone between flights. Don't leave it on dark asphalt or a car dashboard.
  • Cut idle time on the ground. Do your settings before you power on, then fly. Propeller airflow helps cool the drone in flight.
  • Protect your phone. Phones dim or shut down from heat long before the drone does. Shade the screen.
  • Don't charge a hot battery. DJI says to let a battery cool to room temperature after a flight. The charger stops if the cells are outside 41° to 104° F.

Charging in the cold

The same rule works the other way. A battery that has been in a freezing car won't charge until it warms above 41° F. Bring it inside and let it reach room temperature first.

Storage

For storage, DJI asks owners to fully charge each battery at least once every three months to keep it healthy. Store batteries somewhere cool and dry, never in a hot car. More in drone battery care.
