DJI Mini 5 Pro operating temperature: flying in heat and cold

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

DJI rates the Mini 5 Pro to operate from -10° to 40° C (14° to 104° F), and both its controllers, the RC-N3 and DJI RC 2, have the same range. In the cold, battery capacity drops sharply below 5° C (41° F), and DJI says the battery can't be used below -10° C (14° F). Batteries only charge between 5° and 40° C (41° to 104° F). DJI also notes the drone isn't built to military-grade temperature specs.

From DJI's Mini 5 Pro specs and manual, and the DJI RC 2 manual. In Celsius: operating -10° to 40° C, charging 5° to 40° C.

Mini 5 Pro temperature limits

Limit Celsius Fahrenheit
Operating (drone, RC-N3, RC 2) -10° to 40° C 14° to 104° F
Battery charging 5° to 40° C 41° to 104° F
Ideal charging 22° to 28° C 72° to 82° F
Warm battery before takeoff (cold) at least 10° C, ideally above 20° C at least 50° F, ideally above 68° F
Long-term battery storage 22° to 28° C 71° to 82° F
Never store batteries outside -10° to 45° C 14° to 113° F

Flying in the cold

DJI's manual says battery capacity is significantly reduced between -10° and 5° C (14° to 41° F), and that this also reduces the drone's wind resistance. Its advice:

  1. Fully charge the battery before you go.
  2. Warm it to at least 10° C (50° F) before takeoff, ideally above 20° C (68° F). Keep spares in an inside pocket or insulated bag.
  3. Hover for a while after takeoff to let the battery warm up.
  4. Land earlier than usual and watch DJI Fly's battery warnings.
  5. Take extra care at high elevation in the cold.

Also watch for:

  • Snow: DJI says not to fly in snow, and if it starts, land and clean the gimbal and motors. Snow fields also confuse the vision sensors and precision landing.
  • Fog and clouds: they can wet the gimbal and cause a temporary failure until it dries. DJI says not to fly when visibility is under 100 m.
  • Condensation: bringing a cold drone into a warm room can fog the lens. Let it warm up in its bag.

Flying in the heat

  • Above 40° C (104° F) is outside DJI's rating. Don't fly.
  • Let batteries cool after a flight before charging. DJI says charging stops if cells exceed 55° C (131° F).
  • Shade the drone and controller between flights; a hot dark case in the sun heats up fast.
  • Don't block the ventilation holes on the camera, motors or body, per DJI.
  • Watch the screen. Bright sun makes phones dim and hot; the RC 2's 700-nit screen or the RC Pro 2's 2,000-nit screen helps. Phones may also throttle or shut down in heat.
  • Never leave batteries in a hot car. DJI's storage ceiling is 45° C (113° F).

Summer and winter performance

Heat and cold both shorten flights. Expect fewer minutes than DJI's 36-minute rating in cold weather, and plan to land with a 30% reserve. For real flight times, see Mini 5 Pro battery life.

Charging on a cold day

If a battery won't charge outdoors, it's probably below 5° C. Bring it inside, let it warm up, then charge. The battery LEDs can show a low or high charging temperature warning. See DJI battery not charging and drone battery care.
