A DJI drone sets its Home Point automatically at takeoff once it has a strong GNSS signal; DJI Fly shows a white GPS icon and plays a "Home Point recorded" voice prompt. To update it during a flight, for example after you've walked somewhere else, tap ··· in the camera view, open Safety, and use the Home Point update option in the Return to Home section. The drone then returns to the new spot when you press RTH.

How the Home Point is set
- Power on the drone in an open area away from buildings and trees.
- Wait for the GNSS icon at the top of DJI Fly to turn white. DJI's manuals say the Home Point can be updated only when it's white.
- Take off. DJI records the takeoff location as the Home Point and confirms with a voice prompt.
- Don't fly far until you hear it. If you take off early, the drone may not have a Home Point to return to.
You'll see an H marker on the map. DJI Fly can also show an AR Home Point in the live view; toggle it under Safety > AR Settings.
Update the Home Point in flight
DJI's Mini 4 Pro manual puts this under Safety > Return to Home, alongside Advanced RTH and RTH altitude:
- Tap ··· at the top right of the camera view.
- Open Safety and find the Home Point option.
- Tap the update option and confirm when prompted.
- Check the H marker has moved on the map.
Update it whenever you've moved a long way from where you took off, such as on a hike or along a beach.
DJI Neo and Neo 2
- Neo: DJI's Neo manual says RTH isn't supported in Palm Control or Mobile App Control. In those modes, keep it in sight and fly it back yourself.
- Neo 2: DJI's Neo 2 manual says the Home Point records at takeoff with strong GNSS. With a remote controller, you update it manually under ··· > Safety. In Mobile App Control, it updates automatically to the subject's location when you use Follow or other tracking modes. To trigger RTH, press and hold the RTH button on the controller, or tap the left side of the camera view in DJI Fly and hold the RTH icon. The Neo 2 isn't listed on DJI's US website.
Start Return to Home
- Controller: press and hold the RTH button until it beeps. Press it again to cancel.
- DJI Fly: tap the RTH icon on the left of the camera view, then press and hold to confirm.
Set the RTH altitude in Safety above the tallest trees and buildings on your route, and at or below 400 ft in the US.
Home Point won't update?
- Weak GPS. Move into the open and wait for the white icon.
- Indoors or under cover. GNSS doesn't work well there.
- Old app or firmware. Update both: how to update DJI firmware.
Moving boats and vehicles
DJI notes you may need to update the Home Point during a flight if your position changes. On a boat, update it often and be ready to land by hand. Flying from a moving vehicle has its own FAA rules; see flying from a moving vehicle.
