The DJI Neo has no navigation lights, anti-collision strobe or auxiliary bottom light. Its only lights are a status indicator, mode indicators and battery LEDs on top. "Spotlight" in the Neo's mode list is a tracking mode that keeps the camera pointed at you, not a light. DJI also says to fly the Neo only in the daytime, so it isn't built for night flights with or without a light kit.

The lights the Neo does have
- Status indicator: shows system state, such as blinking green slowly when positioning works, purple in Manual mode, and red for warnings like low battery.
- Mode indicators: show which Smart Snap is selected after you press the mode button.
- Battery LEDs: show charge level.
None are bright enough or positioned to help anyone see the Neo from a distance.
Spotlight mode explained
Spotlight is a Smart Snap. The Neo takes off, hovers, and keeps the camera aimed at you while it records. Set it to Photo in DJI Fly and hold a pose for 3 seconds to trigger a photo. With a controller, Spotlight is also part of FocusTrack: you fly manually while the camera stays locked on the subject. Settings for both are in DJI Fly. See Neo QuickShots.
Night flying rules in the US
- Recreational: if you fly at night, the drone must have lighting that lets you see its location and orientation.
- Part 107: night operations need current training and anti-collision lights visible for 3 statute miles.
The Neo has neither built in. Read can you fly a drone at night.
Should you add a light kit?
Third-party strobes and light kits for the Neo exist, but think twice:
- DJI says the Neo is a daytime drone. Its downward vision needs more than 15 lux. In the dark it can drift in Attitude mode, and palm takeoff can fail.
- Weight. The Neo is tuned for 135 g. Extra weight cuts flight time and wind handling.
- DJI's rules. DJI says not to add any payload beyond its qualified parts. Doing so takes the Neo out of its EU C0 class and may affect warranty claims.
- Placement. A strap-on light can block the propeller guards, air intakes or sensors, or show up in your shot.
If you fly at dusk under Part 107, a small, light strobe mounted clear of the props is the usual answer, and you take responsibility for how it affects the drone. For real night work, a drone built for low light is safer. See Neo night mode.
Better options for low light
The DJI Mini 5 Pro has a 1-inch sensor and a forward LiDAR for night obstacle sensing. Compare in Neo alternatives.
For daytime vlogs, the DJI Neo needs no lights at all. Check best Neo settings for bright-day footage.
