The DJI Neo can't zoom. It has a fixed ultra-wide lens, equivalent to 14 mm with a 117.6° field of view, and DJI's specs list no optical or digital zoom for it. To frame a subject tighter, fly closer or crop 4K footage in editing. If zoom matters to you, the DJI Flip and Mini 5 Pro both offer it.

The Neo's camera at a glance
| Spec | DJI Neo |
|---|---|
| Sensor | 1/2-inch, 12 MP |
| Lens | 14 mm equivalent, f/2.8 |
| Field of view | 117.6° |
| Focus range | 0.6 m to infinity |
| Video | 4K/30, 1080p/60 |
| Zoom | None listed by DJI |
That wide lens is intentional. The Neo flies close to people, often a few meters away, so the wide view keeps you and your surroundings in frame during Follow, Circle and Dronie shots.
How to "zoom" with a Neo
1. Crop in editing. Record in 4K (3840 x 2160). If you deliver in 1080p, you can crop up to 2x without dropping below 1080p resolution. Any video editor that can scale or crop a clip will do it. That's our math, not a DJI feature.
2. Fly closer. The full propeller guards make close shots safer than with an open-prop drone, and the image stays at full quality. Keep at least a few meters from people for comfort and safety.
3. Set the distance in DJI Fly. Smart Snaps like Follow, Circle and DirectionTrack let you set the follow distance and height before takeoff. With a controller, ActiveTrack works from 2 to 7 m away (DJI says 2 to 5 m is optimal).
4. Use a 4:3 frame. 4K 4:3 (3840 x 2880) gives you extra height to reframe vertically later. Stabilization is off in 4:3, so stabilize in Gyroflow. See best Neo settings.
Why the Neo has no zoom
Digital zoom crops the sensor. With a 12 MP, 1/2-inch sensor, there's little resolution to spare, so cropped footage would quickly look soft. Cropping in post gives you the same result with more control.
Drones that can zoom
| Drone | Zoom |
|---|---|
| DJI Neo | None |
| DJI Flip | Digital: up to 3x in 4K, 4x in 1080p |
| DJI Mini 5 Pro | 48 mm Med-Tele (2x), plus digital up to 4x in 1080p |
See Flip zoom, Mini 5 Pro zoom, and how to zoom on a DJI drone.
For close-up vlogs, the DJI Neo doesn't need zoom. For distant subjects, step up to a camera drone with zoom.
