DJI rates the Osmo Action 5 Pro at up to 240 minutes (4 hours) per battery, and up to 3.6 hours at -20° C. Those numbers come from lab tests at 1080p/24fps with stabilization on and the screens and Wi-Fi off. Shooting 4K at high frame rates with a screen on uses power much faster, so plan on a spare battery or a battery case for a full day.

The battery
The Action 5 Pro uses the Osmo Action Extreme Battery Plus: 1950 mAh, 7.5 Wh, 34 g, rated to work from -20° to 45° C. DJI says it charges between 5° and 40° C. It's the same battery shape as earlier Osmo Action cameras, and it also fits the Action 4, Action 3 and Action 6. At 7.5 Wh it's far under the 100 Wh airline limit, but spares still go in carry-on bags.
What drains it faster
- Resolution and frame rate. 4K/120 and other high-spec modes use the most power, and DJI notes they also make the camera warm.
- Screens. Two OLED screens at high brightness add up. Use one screen and lower the brightness.
- Wi-Fi and live view in DJI Mimo. Leave the app disconnected when you don't need it.
- Cold. Charge to full at room temperature before a cold day, as DJI advises, and keep spares in an inside pocket.
Charging
- Fast charging: DJI says the Action 5 Pro supports fast charging with the DJI 30W USB-C Charger (sold separately). Use a USB-C charger that supports Power Delivery or PPS.
- Use while charging: yes, from a USB-C power source, even with no battery inserted. DJI notes Subject Tracking and SuperNight modes only work with a battery installed.
- Storage: if you won't use a battery for 10 days or more, DJI recommends leaving it at 40 to 65%.
Battery cases, packs and handles
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Extreme Battery Plus | A spare 1950 mAh battery, $54 at our store |
| Multifunctional Battery Case 3 | Holds and charges three batteries plus two microSD cards; works as a power bank |
| Multifunctional Charging Handle | Grip with a 4900 mAh battery; DJI says about 7 hours for the Action 5 Pro; not waterproof |
| USB-C power bank | Runs the camera on a cable for timelapses and long drives |
Two warnings: DJI says the original first-generation Osmo Action battery case doesn't accept the Extreme Battery Plus, and none of the battery cases are waterproof.
The Adventure Combo already includes three batteries and the Multifunctional Battery Case 2. See Standard vs Adventure Combo.
How to get more from each battery
- Choose the lowest resolution and frame rate that suits the shot. 4K/30 or 1080p for long POV.
- Use a single screen and lower brightness when the camera is mounted.
- Keep Wi-Fi off and connect to DJI Mimo only to transfer or change settings.
- Use sleep mode between clips: hold the quick switch button. Press it again to wake.
- Use SnapShot: with the camera off, hold the shutter button to start recording instantly. The camera powers off after 3 seconds idle.
Is it enough?
For a ride, a ski half-day or a dive trip, one battery often covers it. For a full travel day or long motovlog, carry two or three. If heat rather than battery stops your recording, see Action 5 Pro overheating.
