The Osmo Action 5 Pro doesn't have GPS built in. To get speed, distance, route or elevation overlays, record the data with the Osmo Action GPS Bluetooth Remote Controller, or import a workout from a supported smartwatch, then add it to your clip as a dashboard in the DJI Mimo app. Depth and altitude are different: the camera's own pressure sensor records those.

Option 1: Osmo Action GPS Bluetooth Remote Controller
A small wearable remote with its own GPS. You wear it on your wrist or mount it on the handlebar, start and stop recording from it, and it logs your position while you ride or run.
| Spec (DJI) | Value |
|---|---|
| Weight | 26 g |
| Battery | 270 mAh |
| Water resistance | IPX7 |
| Operating temperature | -10° to 45° C |
| In the box | Remote, long and short wrist straps |
| Works with | Osmo Action 5 Pro, Action 4, Action 6, Osmo 360 |
IPX7 is splash and brief-immersion protection, not a dive rating, so it's not a match for the camera's 20 m waterproofing. DJI points to its tutorial video for pairing and use, so follow that for your firmware version.
Option 2: data from your smartwatch
A November 2024 firmware update (with DJI Mimo 2.1.8 or later) added sports data import. DJI lists:
- Apple Watch (iPhone users)
- Huawei Watch or Band (Android users)
- Garmin, Magene, iGPSPORT, Suunto and Coros smartwatches
If you already record rides or runs on one of these, you may not need the remote at all. Keep the camera's clock correct so the data lines up with your footage.
Adding the overlay in DJI Mimo
- Record your activity with the camera and with the remote or watch.
- Connect the camera to DJI Mimo and download the clip.
- Use Mimo's dashboard feature to add your GPS or sports data to the clip.
- Export the finished video.
Menus change between app versions. If you don't see the dashboard option, update DJI Mimo and the camera firmware. See Action 5 Pro tips and setup.
Depth and altitude without GPS
Swipe down, tap Settings, then Depth & Altitude:
- Diving: Auto Record starts at 1 m and shows depth and dive time.
- Hiking & Parachuting: turn on Altitude Display to show current altitude live.
The recorded depth or altitude can also go into a Mimo dashboard. See diving with the Action 5 Pro.
Prefer to edit on a computer?
Third-party telemetry tools exist, but camera support varies. If you edit in DaVinci Resolve or Premiere, check the tool's own compatibility list before buying a remote. For stabilization and multicam sync, see Gyroflow and timecode.
Who should get the remote
- Cyclists and motorcyclists who want to start recording without reaching for the camera and like speed overlays.
- Runners and skiers who don't wear a supported watch.
