Osmo Action 5 Pro with Gyroflow and timecode

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

To use Gyroflow with the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, set EIS to Disabled and the field of view to Wide before recording; DJI's manual says that's how the camera records video with gyro data. For timecode, swipe down from the top of the screen, open Settings, and select Timecode. You can reset it, sync it with the system time, or sync it from an external timecode device through the USB-C port.

Gyroflow and timecode
DJI's manual says to disable EIS and use the Wide FOV to record gyro data. Timecode is set in the control menu and can be synced through the USB-C port.

Recording for Gyroflow

Gyroflow is free software that stabilizes video using the motion data the camera records. It gives you more control than in-camera stabilization: you pick the smoothness, crop and horizon lock after the shoot.

Camera settings:

  1. In Video mode, tap the EIS setting in the upper right corner and choose Disabled.
  2. Set the FOV to Wide.
  3. Choose your resolution and frame rate. 4K 4:3 gives the most frame to stabilize and reframe; the Action 5 Pro records 4K 4:3 at up to 120 fps.
  4. Lock the shutter if you can: about double the frame rate, with an ND filter in sun. Gyroflow can't remove motion blur baked into a frame.

With EIS disabled you lose in-camera RockSteady, HorizonBalancing and HorizonSteady, so your clips will look shaky until you process them.

In Gyroflow: drag the clip in, confirm the lens profile and motion data loaded, set smoothing, choose horizon lock if you want it, and export. Gyroflow also offers plugins for DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro. Support for specific cameras and firmware is listed on Gyroflow's own site, so check there if a clip won't load.

When to skip Gyroflow

In-camera stabilization is easier and works well:

  • RockSteady and RockSteady+ for most handheld and mounted shots.
  • HorizonSteady keeps the horizon level through full 360° rotation, at 1080p and 2.7K (16:9) up to 60 fps.
  • HorizonBalancing corrects tilt within ±45°, up to 4K (16:9) at 60 fps.

Use Gyroflow for FPV drones, very heavy motion, or when you need the full wide frame.

Setting timecode

Timecode stamps each frame with a clock time, so editors can line up clips from several cameras and audio recorders automatically.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the control menu.
  2. Tap Settings and select Timecode.
  3. Choose Reset or Sync with system time.
  4. For frame-accurate sync across devices, connect a timecode synchronizer to the USB-C port.
  5. Turn on Timecode Display to see it in the live view.

Syncing to system time is quick but drifts over long shoots. An external synchronizer is better for interviews, events and multicam work.

Multicam with Osmo Pocket 3

The Osmo Pocket 3 has the same options: reset timecode, sync with system time, or sync through its USB-C port. Set both cameras the same way before you start, then use your editor's sync-by-timecode feature. Audio from a DJI Mic 2 can be synced by waveform if it isn't stamped.

Other useful settings for this workflow

  • Color: D-Log M 10-bit for grading. Apply DJI's LUT after stabilizing; see Osmo Action 5 Pro LUTs.
  • Highlights: tap the marker during playback to flag moments for editing.
  • Pre-Rec: saves 5 seconds to 5 minutes before you press record.
