Using a microphone with the Osmo Mobile 6 (DJI Mic 2 and Mic Mini)

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Yes, you can use an external mic with the Osmo Mobile 6. The mic connects to your phone, not the gimbal: plug a DJI Mic 2 or DJI Mic Mini receiver into the phone's USB-C or Lightning port, clip the transmitter on, and record in DJI Mimo or any camera app. DJI's FAQ confirms Mimo can record from an external mic connected to the phone. Just keep the phone, case and receiver under the gimbal's 290 g limit.

Mic setup on the OM 6
The mic connects to your phone, not the gimbal. DJI Mimo records from an external mic plugged into the phone; keep phone plus accessories under 290 g.

Option 1: receiver plugged into the phone (best)

  1. Attach the receiver to the phone with its USB-C adapter (Lightning adapters are sold separately).
  2. Clamp the phone on the gimbal as usual, clamp centered.
  3. Clip the transmitter to your collar.
  4. Open DJI Mimo and record. Check the audio meter or do a short test clip.

Why this is best: the 2.4 GHz link between transmitter and receiver is the most stable, and two people can be recorded at once. The Mic Mini receiver weighs about 17.8 g and the Mic 2 receiver 28 g. Both count toward the 290 g limit. If the phone tips toward the receiver, re-center the clamp slightly or use the M3×0.5 counterweight hole on the gimbal, which DJI says is for when a lens or mic is mounted on the phone.

Option 2: transmitter straight to the phone over Bluetooth

Both the DJI Mic 2 and DJI Mic Mini transmitters can pair directly with a phone over Bluetooth, so nothing hangs off the phone. Trade-offs:

  • One transmitter at a time.
  • On the Mic Mini, noise cancelling is fixed at Strong and Low Cut isn't available over Bluetooth.
  • On the Mic 2, internal recording and noise cancelling aren't available over Bluetooth.
  • Whether an app accepts a Bluetooth mic depends on the app and phone. DJI publishes a third-party app compatibility list on its Mic downloads pages.

Apple Watch users: DJI advises against using its Apple Watch remote and a Bluetooth Mic 2 at the same time. Use the receiver with the phone adapter instead.

Option 3: wired mics

A wired lav or small shotgun mic works through a USB-C or Lightning adapter. A shotgun on a cold shoe adds weight high on the phone, so balance matters more; a lav is easier. DJI also sells an OM Fill Light Phone Clamp for the Osmo Mobile 6, which it lists alongside DJI Mic as compatible accessories.

Which mic should you get?

  • DJI Mic Mini: lightest receiver, about 11.5 hours per transmitter, good for vlogs and social.
  • DJI Mic 2: internal 32-bit float backup on each transmitter, touchscreen receiver, headphone monitoring.

Quick troubleshooting

  • No audio in the clip: check the receiver is fully seated and linked (solid green), and that the app's audio input is the external mic.
  • Gimbal struggling: you're near the 290 g limit. Try a lighter case.
  • Mic not detected on iPhone: see DJI Mic 2 not connecting to iPhone.
