Can you use Air 3 batteries?
Yes. DJI lists the Air 3 Intelligent Flight Battery (4241 mAh, 62.6 Wh) as compatible with the Air 3S. The only catch: with an Air 3 battery fitted, the Air 3S doesn't support Off-State QuickTransfer, which lets you pull footage to your phone while the drone is powered off. The Air 3S battery also works in the Air 3, so mixed fleets can share packs.
Chargers
- DJI 100W USB-C Power Adapter: about 60 minutes per battery with the hub. It has two USB-C ports (up to 82 W on one port when both are used), so it can charge your controller at the same time.
- DJI 65W Portable Charger: about 80 minutes. Smaller, good for travel.
- DJI 65W Car Charger: for road trips, used with the hub.
- Third-party chargers: DJI recommends USB-C PD chargers rated 60 W or more. Lower-power chargers work slowly or not at all.
You can also charge the battery inside the drone through its USB-C port.
The charging hub
The Air 3 Series Battery Charging Hub ($76) works with both Air 3S and Air 3 batteries:
- Charges three batteries in sequence, highest charge first.
- Power accumulation: with two or more part-used packs inserted, long-press the function button to move charge into the fullest one.
- Power bank: up to 82 W out through USB-C for your phone, tablet or controller.
Don't connect a charger or other devices, or swap batteries, while power accumulation is running. The hub doesn't include a power adapter.
How many to buy
- Two batteries for casual flights.
- Three plus the hub for travel and paid work (about 135 rated minutes).
- The Fly More Combo includes three batteries, the hub and a bag. See Air 3S Fly More Combo.
Battery care and travel
- Charge only between 5° and 40° C, and let a warm pack cool first.
- Charge every battery fully at least once every three months; DJI's warranty excludes packs left uncharged and unused for three months or more.
- For transport, DJI recommends 30% charge or lower. On flights, spares go in carry-on with terminals covered. At 62.5 Wh, no airline approval is needed. See traveling with a drone.
