DJI rates the Air 3S at up to 45 minutes of flight and 41 minutes of hover per battery. In everyday flying, expect about 36 to 38 minutes before you should land with a safe reserve. Recharging takes about 60 minutes with DJI's 100W USB-C adapter and charging hub, or about 80 minutes with the 65W Portable Charger.

How DJI measured 45 minutes
DJI's figure comes from a wind-tunnel test with the Air 3S flying forward at a steady 32.4 km/h (about 20 mph) and the camera in Photo mode. Hover time (41 minutes) and the 32 km maximum flight distance were measured in similar controlled conditions. Real flights include climbs, turns, wind and recording, so you won't hit 45.
What eats into flight time
- Wind. Holding position or flying into a headwind takes much more power. The Air 3S is rated for wind up to 12 m/s. See Air 3S wind resistance.
- Cold. Between -10° and 5° C (14° to 41° F), capacity drops a lot, and the battery can't be used below -10° C.
- Sport mode and fast climbs.
- High elevation, where the props work harder in thin air.
- Accessories like a propeller guard or strobe.
Is there an extended battery for the Air 3S?
No. DJI makes one battery for the Air 3S (4276 mAh, 62.5 Wh). The Air 3 battery also fits, but holds about the same energy (62.6 Wh) and doesn't support Off-State QuickTransfer on the Air 3S. To fly longer, carry more batteries.
Battery math for a shoot
| Batteries | Rated minutes | Realistic minutes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 45 | about 37 |
| 2 | 90 | about 74 |
| 3 (Fly More Combo) | 135 | about 111 |
Charging times
- 100W USB-C Power Adapter + Charging Hub: about 60 minutes per battery; three batteries charge one after another, so about three hours for a full set.
- 65W Portable Charger: about 80 minutes.
- Inside the drone: through the aircraft's USB-C port.
Batteries charge only between 5° and 40° C (41° to 104° F); ideal is 22° to 28° C. Charging stops if the cells go above 55° C, so let packs cool after flying.
Get the most from each battery
- Charge right before you fly. Idle batteries slowly self-discharge.
- In cold weather, warm the battery to at least 10° C before takeoff (DJI suggests above 20° C is ideal), then hover briefly.
- Fly upwind first so the trip home is easier.
- Use Normal or Cine mode for most shooting.
- Land when DJI Fly warns of low battery.
