Yes. With the RC Motion 3 controller that comes in the kits, the DJI Avata 2 is one of the easiest FPV drones to learn. It holds its position with GPS and vision sensors, flies the first flight in Beginner mode at 1 m/s, and does flips with one push of the joystick. What's still hard is the goggles view, judging distance without obstacle avoidance, and, if you want it, true Manual mode.

What makes the Avata 2 easy
- Point-and-fly control. With the RC Motion 3 you point the controller where you want to go and squeeze the accelerator. Let go and it hovers.
- Beginner mode. On by default for the first flight, it caps speed at 1 m/s. Turn it off in the goggles under Settings > Control > Beginner Mode.
- Stabilized modes. Normal mode (up to 8 m/s) self-levels and brakes automatically. Sport mode (16 m/s) is faster but still stabilized.
- Easy ACRO. Flips, rolls, 180° drifts and Power Loops at the push of the joystick, with the drone recovering on its own.
- Safety net. Return to Home, a Flight Pause brake, Turtle mode to flip upright after a crash, and a built-in propeller guard.
- Toughness. The ducted frame shrugs off light bumps that would break a camera drone's props.
What's hard about it
- Goggles take getting used to. Some people feel disoriented at first. Start with short, slow flights.
- No obstacle avoidance. DJI's FAQ says the Avata 2 doesn't avoid obstacles. It won't stop for a tree, and RTH can't avoid obstacles either.
- Judging gaps. The 155° wide lens makes gaps look bigger than they are.
- Manual mode is real FPV. It needs the FPV Remote Controller 3 and lots of simulator time. See Avata 2 manual mode.
- Rules. In goggles you need a visual observer next to you, and the drone must be registered.
RC Motion 3 or sticks for a beginner?
Start with the RC Motion 3. Most people fly smoothly within a session or two. If you know you want to fly freestyle FPV, add the FPV Remote Controller 3 and practice in a simulator such as Liftoff or Uncrashed in parallel. See Avata 2 controllers and how to practice drone flying on PC.
A safe first-flight setup
- Charge everything and update firmware.
- Set RTH altitude above nearby trees in Settings > Safety.
- Pick a big, open field with no people, and bring a friend as your visual observer.
- Take off, hover, and practice gentle turns and landings.
- Keep flights short until the goggles feel natural.

Is it easier than a camera drone?
Not quite. A camera drone like the Air 3S, flown on a screen with obstacle sensing, is easier to fly safely. But for FPV, the Avata 2 is much easier than a custom acro quad. See best FPV drone for beginners and fpv drone vs normal drone.
