What the Avata 2 records

Video (DJI specs):

  • 4K 16:9 at 30, 50, 60 or 100 fps
  • 4K 4:3 at 30, 50 or 60 fps
  • 2.7K 16:9 at up to 120 fps; 1080p at up to 120 fps
  • MP4, H.264 or H.265, up to 130 Mbps
  • Color: Normal or 10-bit D-Log M for grading

Photos: single shot only, 12 MP JPEG (4000 x 3000 at 4:3, or 4000 x 2256 at 16:9).

Field of view: normal, wide or ultra-wide, from a 155-degree lens.

Stabilization

  • RockSteady (default) smooths shake and is the easiest choice.
  • HorizonSteady keeps the horizon level through rolls and turns.
  • Off, with the Wide field of view, lets you stabilize later in Gyroflow for the most natural FPV look. See edit FPV footage with Gyroflow.

Where files go

The Avata 2 saves to its microSD card if one is inserted, or to its 46 GB internal storage if not. Use a UHS-I Speed Grade 3 (U3) card or faster for 4K. DJI notes internal storage can slow down over time; follow the goggles' prompt to move files off and format.

Recording the goggles view

With a microSD card in the Goggles 3 and Record With set to both aircraft and goggles, the goggles save a 1080p screen recording of what you saw, including the on-screen display. To leave the OSD out of that recording, open the goggles menu, go to Settings > Camera > Advanced Camera Settings and turn off Camera View Recording. Goggles recordings top out at 60 fps, and DJI says camera settings above 60 fps are recorded at half rate.

Settings we suggest to start

  • 4K/60, Normal color, RockSteady for easy cruising clips.
  • 4K/100 or 2.7K/120 for slow motion.
  • D-Log M only if you plan to color grade.
  • Keep shutter speed around double the frame rate in bright light by using ND filters.
