Best drone for indoor real estate fly-throughs

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The best drone for indoor real estate fly-throughs is the DJI Avata 2 ($934) if you want flowing, one-take FPV tours that move from the yard through the front door. For simpler, steady walkthroughs that anyone can fly, the DJI Flip ($483) is the easiest choice: full propeller guards, a 48 MP 1/1.3-inch camera and 4K/60 HDR video. For small homes and tight rooms, the 135 g DJI Neo is the safest option, with lower image quality.

Specs from DJI, prices are ours. The Avata 2 gives the most cinematic flow; the Flip is the easiest for clean, steady interior walkthroughs.

Why small, guarded drones

Interiors have walls, glass, ceiling fans and expensive furniture. A guarded drone survives light bumps, and a lighter drone produces less prop wash that kicks up dust and moves curtains. Indoors there's no GPS, so drones hold position with downward vision sensors that need decent light and a textured floor. See flying a drone indoors.

DJI Avata 2: cinematic FPV tours

The Avata 2 is the tool for the smooth, continuous "fly-through" style: through doorways, down hallways and out onto the deck. With DJI Goggles 3 and the RC Motion 3, you steer by pointing your hand, which is easier than full manual FPV. It records 4K/60fps HDR on a 1/1.3-inch sensor and has a built-in prop guard.

Downsides: it's louder and has more prop wash than smaller drones, its rated flight time is 23 minutes, and it takes practice to fly tight interiors cleanly. Practice in an empty space or a simulator first. See Avata 2 indoors.

DJI Flip: easiest clean walkthroughs

The Flip flies like a normal camera drone, so you can glide slowly through rooms, rise over a kitchen island or reveal a living room. It has full fold-out guards, a 1/1.3-inch 48 MP camera, 4K/60fps HDR and 31 minutes of rated flight. The Fly More Combo ($857) includes the DJI RC 2 screen controller. It doesn't support DJI goggles.

DJI Neo: tight spaces and budget

The Neo ($186) is the most forgiving in small apartments and bathrooms, and it can be flown with Goggles N3 for an FPV-style tour. Its 1/2-inch sensor and 4K/30 video won't match the Flip or Avata 2 in dim interiors, and it has no obstacle sensing.

Shooting tips

  1. Turn on every light and open blinds. More light means less drift and cleaner footage.
  2. Turn off ceiling fans and close doors to rooms you won't enter.
  3. Plan the route like a walking tour: exterior approach, entry, main living spaces, best feature, exit.
  4. Fly slowly and keep the camera level; tilt changes look jerky in interiors.
  5. Set signal loss to Hover or Land, not return-to-home.
  6. Shoot several takes. Pick the cleanest in the edit.

Rules

The FAA doesn't regulate flights that stay entirely indoors, but most fly-throughs start or end outside, and paid real estate work outdoors requires a Part 107 certificate and registration. Get the owner's permission and clear the home of people and pets.
