DJI Goggles 3 and HDZero goggles are built for different FPV systems, so the choice is really DJI O4 vs HDZero. DJI Goggles 3 give you a sharper, compressed HD image, long range and plug-and-play drones like the Avata 2 and Neo. HDZero is designed around very low, fixed latency for racing and tight freestyle, with a built-in analog receiver and HDMI input. The two don't talk to each other: DJI goggles can't receive HDZero or analog video, and HDZero goggles can't receive DJI's link.

DJI figures from its spec page; HDZero figures from HDZero Goggle 2 retail listings.
Latency
DJI rates Goggles 3 with the Avata 2 at 24 ms at 1080p/100fps and 40 ms at 1080p/60fps. The O4 Air Unit page lists latency as low as 20 ms in racing mode. HDZero's selling point is lower latency that stays consistent, which is why it's popular in racing. HDZero's live modes trade resolution for frame rate: its Goggle 2 lists 1080p30, 720p60, 540p90 and 540p60 modes.
Image and range
DJI's O4 link delivers a detailed 1080p image at up to 60 Mbps with the Avata 2, and a rated range of 13 km (FCC). HDZero's fastest modes run at lower resolution (540p), which suits racing more than cinematic flying. For cinematic FPV and general freestyle, DJI's sharper picture is the stronger choice.
Ecosystem
DJI Goggles 3 work with the Avata 2, Neo, Air 3, Mini 4 Pro, the O4 Air Unit series and the O3 Air Unit. Ready-to-fly DJI drones bind and fly out of the box, with GPS hold, return to home and motion control with the RC Motion 3.
HDZero runs on custom builds, mostly smaller racing quads and whoops, with HDZero video transmitters. The built-in analog receiver lets you fly analog quads at the same race.
Which should you choose?
- Ready-to-fly drone, cinematic or casual flying: DJI Goggles 3 with an Avata 2.
- Custom freestyle builds with HD footage: DJI Goggles 3 with an O4 Air Unit.
- Spec racing, whoops, analog compatibility: HDZero.
- Flying in a group: both systems use fixed channels for racing. DJI's racing mode on Goggles 3 locks the O4 link to manual channels.
Can you use both?
Yes, but as two separate systems with separate goggles. Neither pair can switch to the other's video link.
