The best DJI Mic Mini settings for most videos are: camera audio gain turned low, the receiver's gain dial raised until speech is strong but not clipping, noise cancelling on Basic in normal places and Strong for traffic or wind, low cut on, and Mono for one speaker or Stereo for two. Noise cancelling level and low cut are set in the DJI Mimo app; gain is the dial on the receiver.

Where the settings are
| Setting | Where |
|---|---|
| Receiver gain | Rotate the dial on the receiver |
| Noise cancelling on/off | Press the transmitter's power button |
| Noise cancelling level (Basic/Strong) | DJI Mimo app |
| Low cut | DJI Mimo app |
| Mono / Stereo | Press the receiver's link button twice |
| Auto off, camera power sync, LEDs | DJI Mimo app |
To open the Mic Mini in DJI Mimo, connect the receiver to an Android phone with the adapter, or connect the transmitter (or, on iPhone, the receiver) over Bluetooth. Details in Mic Mini firmware and app.
Gain: camera low, receiver high
DJI's advice for cameras: lower the camera's input gain to prevent clipping, then increase the receiver's gain. A camera's preamp is usually noisier than the receiver's, so this gives cleaner audio. DJI publishes recommended camera gain values on the Mic Mini downloads page.
On a phone, the app often controls gain. Set the dial to a middle position, record a test, and adjust.
Noise cancelling
- Off: quiet rooms. Most natural sound.
- Basic: light background noise like an air conditioner or a café.
- Strong: traffic, crowds, wind. It can make voices sound a little processed.
Over Bluetooth to a phone, noise cancelling is fixed at Strong. With an Osmo Pocket 3 or Action camera connected directly, set it on the camera. See Mic Mini noise cancelling.
Low cut and EQ
Low cut trims low-frequency rumble from traffic, engines, handling and wind. Leave it on for voice. The Mic Mini doesn't have a full user EQ in DJI's documentation; the options in DJI Mimo can change with firmware, so check the app's device page.
Mono or Stereo
- Mono: both transmitters mixed into one track. Easiest for phone posting.
- Stereo: transmitter 1 left, transmitter 2 right. Best for interviews you'll edit.
The receiver LED is green in Mono and cyan in Stereo. See recording modes.
Car setup
- Clip the transmitter on the collar, 15 to 20 cm from the mouth, facing up.
- Noise cancelling Basic, low cut on to reduce engine and road rumble.
- Keep it away from the seatbelt, which rubs and rustles.
- If you use the phone mount, put the receiver on the phone with the adapter.
Motorcycle setup
- Wind is the main problem. Use the windscreen and keep the transmitter out of direct airflow, for example under a jacket collar.
- Noise cancelling Strong, low cut on.
- Use the clip, not the magnet, so it doesn't fall off at speed.
- Test at riding speed before a long trip, and never adjust gear while riding.
Vlogging and talking head
- Mono, noise cancelling Off or Basic, low cut on.
- Windscreen outdoors only.
- Keep the mic 15 to 20 cm from your mouth.
