DJI RS 4 vs RS 4 Pro: which do you need?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Choose the RS 4 if your camera, lens and accessories weigh under 3 kg, which covers most mirrorless and full-frame setups with standard zooms. Choose the RS 4 Pro if you fly heavier cinema rigs up to 4.5 kg, want carbon fiber arms, or plan to use LiDAR autofocus, dual focus and zoom motors and wireless video from the gimbal.

DJI RS 4 vs RS 4 Pro
DJI's published specs. The RS 4 Pro carries 1.5 kg more and adds a pro lens-control ecosystem. The RS 4 is lighter and $440 cheaper.

Where the Pro pulls ahead

  • Payload and torque. 4.5 kg, with DJI quoting 20% more motor torque than the RS 3 Pro. Heavy cine zooms, matte boxes and wireless transmitters fit with margin.
  • LiDAR focusing. With the DJI Focus Pro LiDAR (sold separately), DJI quotes 76,800 ranging points within 20 m for autofocus on manual lenses, plus ActiveTrack Pro.
  • Dual motors. Run focus and zoom motors at once, and control them remotely with the Focus Pro Hand Unit.
  • Transmission. The RS 4 Pro can power the Focus Pro LiDAR and a DJI video transmitter at the same time with DJI's cable hub.
  • Better standard kit. The RS 4 Pro box already includes a briefcase handle, a metal extended grip/tripod and a carrying case. See RS 4 Combo vs Standard.

Where the RS 4 wins

  • Weight. About 240 g lighter with the grip, which you feel after an hour of walking shots.
  • Price. $440 less at our prices, or enough for a spare grip and a focus motor.
  • Enough for most. A full-frame mirrorless body with a 24-70 f/2.8 is well inside 3 kg.

Battery grips

DJI says the RS 4 Pro's BG30 grip fits the RS 4 and RS 3 Pro, but the RS 4's BG21 grip can't be used on the RS 4 Pro. If you run both gimbals, standardize on BG30 or BG70 grips.

Quick decision

  1. Weigh your full rig, including cage, monitor and transmitter.
  2. Under 2 kg: look at the RS 4 Mini.
  3. 2 to 3 kg: the RS 4.
  4. Over 3 kg, or you need LiDAR focus: the RS 4 Pro.
