Pick the RS 4 Mini if your camera and lens weigh under 2 kg and you want the lightest, cheapest DJI camera gimbal. Pick the RS 4 if you shoot with a full-frame body and heavier zoom lenses up to 3 kg, want a swappable battery, or plan to add a focus motor. Both have automated axis locks and native vertical shooting.

Payload is the real decision
Weigh your camera with the lens, battery, card and anything else on top. DJI says the RS 4 Mini handles mainstream mirrorless bodies with compact lenses, vlog cameras and phones (with the phone holder). Add a heavy f/2.8 zoom, a cage or a monitor and you're past 2 kg quickly. That's where the RS 4 earns its place, and DJI lengthened its tilt axis by 8.5 mm to fit bigger lenses.

What the RS 4 adds
- Swappable battery grip. Carry a spare BG21 grip, or add the BG70 High-Capacity Battery Grip, which DJI rates at up to 29.5 hours on the RS 4.
- Lens control. The RS 4 works with the DJI Focus Pro Motor for focus by dial and zoom by joystick. The RS 4 Mini supports Bluetooth zoom control and shutter, but not an external focus motor.
- More ports. An RSA port for the tethered control handle and third-party accessories, plus two NATO ports.
- Fine-tuning knob on the tilt axis for millimeter-level balancing.
What the RS 4 Mini does better
- Weight. About 890 g is much easier on your wrists over a long day.
- Fastest vertical switch. DJI says the Mini switches between horizontal and vertical in about 10 seconds, the fastest in the RS line.
- Tracking. The RS Intelligent Tracking Module clips on magnetically and follows a person by gesture or trigger. It's included in the RS 4 Mini Combo and sold separately otherwise.
- Price. It costs $176 less than the RS 4 at our prices.
