DJI RS 4 vs Zhiyun Crane and Weebill: which camera gimbal?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Both brands make capable 3-axis camera gimbals, so match the gimbal to your camera's weight first, then compare features. DJI's RS 4 carries a tested payload of 3 kg and the RS 4 Mini 0.4 to 2 kg; both have automated axis locks, native vertical shooting and a 360-degree pan axis. Zhiyun's Crane line targets heavier setups, the Weebill line is its more compact design, and Smooth models are phone gimbals. Check Zhiyun's official specs for the exact model you're considering, since we only quote numbers we can verify.

How to compare with Zhiyun

Payload in practice. A gimbal's rated payload assumes a well-balanced setup. A full-frame body with a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens is a common mid-weight load, so leave some margin. DJI's RS 4 camera compatibility and RS 4 payload guides help you check yours.

Setup speed. Automated axis locks on both RS 4 models unlock when you power on and lock when you power off, which saves time between shots. Check how the Zhiyun model you're considering locks and folds.

Vertical video. DJI's native vertical mode rotates the camera without extra plates. If you shoot reels and shorts, compare how many seconds and parts it takes on each gimbal.

Camera control. DJI connects to many cameras for shutter and record control over Bluetooth or a cable. Check the compatibility list for your body on both brands.

Ecosystem. RS 4 supports DJI focus motors and image transmission; the RS 4 Mini supports the add-on Intelligent Tracking Module. Zhiyun has its own accessories and app. If you also use DJI Osmo gear, the Ronin and Mimo apps share a familiar workflow.

Phone gimbals. Searches for "Zhiyun Smooth 4" are about phone gimbals, not camera gimbals. DJI's equivalents are the Osmo Mobile line. See Osmo Mobile 6 vs Zhiyun Smooth.
