On the DJI Flip, the parts you can replace yourself are the propellers (using the screwdriver that comes with the drone) and the Intelligent Flight Battery. A damaged gimbal, camera, motor, arm or propeller guard frame should go to DJI repair or a repair center, or be replaced under DJI Care Refresh if you have it. In the US, a Care Refresh damage replacement for the Flip costs $39.

Step 1: Check the damage safely
- Power off and remove the battery.
- Look at each propeller for cracks, chips, warping or loose screws.
- Spin each motor by hand. It should turn smoothly, with no grinding.
- Check the foldable guard frame and the arms for cracks, and make sure each arm folds and locks.
- Check the camera glass, the forward 3D infrared sensor window and the downward sensors.
- Check the battery for swelling or a loose fit.
DJI's manual says to check every part after any crash and not to fly right after a hard knock. If anything beyond the props is damaged, don't test-fly it.

| Part | DIY? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Propellers | Yes | Screw-on; use new screws and the included screwdriver |
| Battery | Yes | Flip Intelligent Flight Battery |
| Arms, guard frame, motors | No | Needs disassembly and new wiring |

Replacing Flip propellers
DJI's propeller packs come with two marked and two unmarked blades plus screws. The rules from DJI's manual and FAQ:
- Remove both blades and screws from one motor, then fit two new blades with the new screws from the same pack.
- Marked props go on marked motors; unmarked on unmarked.
- Use only the screwdriver from the Flip's box. DJI says other screwdrivers can damage the screws, and the screwdriver isn't for taking the drone apart.
- Lift the guard slightly and feed the propeller in from below, then seat it before tightening.
See Flip propellers for more.
Gimbal problems
Signs of gimbal damage: a tilted horizon, a "gimbal motor overloaded" warning, shaking footage or a camera that won't level. First remove the gimbal protector before power-on and make sure nothing touches the camera. Then run a gimbal calibration in DJI Fly. If it doesn't fix it, the gimbal needs a repair center; don't bend it by hand. See Flip gimbal motor overloaded and Flip horizon.
Your repair options
- DJI Care Refresh: the cheapest route after a crash. US fees for the Flip are $39 per damage replacement and $176 for a flyaway. See how to claim DJI Care Refresh.
- DJI repair service: request a repair through DJI Support. DJI quotes after inspection. Defects under warranty are covered; crash damage isn't.
- Our repair desk: we can assess the damage and arrange the fix. Start at repair.
Third-party gimbal and arm parts are sold online, but fitting them means opening the drone, and damage from unauthorized repairs isn't covered by DJI or Care Refresh. For how the FCC's December 2025 decision affects parts and service, see DJI ban: repairs and parts.
Avoid the next repair
- Keep obstacle avoidance on and stay out of Sport mode near obstacles. The Flip only senses forward.
- Remember that tracking modes don't brake for obstacles.
- Respect the 10.7 m/s wind rating. See Flip wind resistance.
