Yes. The DJI Mavic 3 Classic has Standard Remote ID built in and is on the FAA's list of accepted Remote ID declarations. DJI's manual says it complies with 14 CFR Part 89 and broadcasts automatically from takeoff to shutdown. Because it weighs 895 g, you must register it with the FAA and add its serial number to your FAADroneZone account. You'll find the serial number in DJI Fly under Settings > About.

Where to find the serial number
- In DJI Fly: with the drone connected, open the settings and tap About. DJI lists the device name, model, firmware versions and SN there.
- On the box: the barcode label on the packaging.
Use the aircraft's serial number, not the controller's or the battery's. Battery serials appear separately in DJI Fly's battery info.
Adding it to your FAA registration
- Log in at FAADroneZone.
- Recreational: add the Classic to your recreational inventory with its serial number. One registration number covers all your recreational drones.
- Part 107: register the Classic as its own aircraft and enter the serial.
- Mark your FAA registration number on the outside of the drone.
The fee is $5 and registration lasts 3 years. Full steps in FAA registration.
How the Classic meets the rule
From the FAR Remote ID section of DJI's manual:
- It broadcasts Remote ID messages from takeoff until shutdown.
- It runs a pre-flight self-test and can't take off if the Remote ID system fails it.
- It monitors Remote ID throughout the flight and shows an alarm in DJI Fly or DJI goggles if something fails.
- The RC-N1 and DJI Goggles 2 have no GNSS of their own. With them, a phone or tablet must supply the pilot location, with DJI Fly running in the foreground and allowed precise location. DJI requires an FCC-certified device that uses GPS with SBAS (WAAS) or has integrated GNSS. The DJI RC has its own GNSS.
Remote ID error? Try these in order
- Allow DJI Fly precise location and keep it open on screen.
- Turn on the phone's location services and give it time to lock outdoors.
- Restart the drone, controller and app.
- Update the aircraft firmware, controller firmware and DJI Fly. See Mavic 3 Classic firmware update.
- Try another phone, or a controller with its own GNSS like the DJI RC.
If the self-test keeps failing, see DJI Remote ID error or contact our repair team.
Can you turn it off?
No, not in the US. Every drone that must be registered has to broadcast Remote ID, unless you fly inside an FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA). In Europe the Classic uses Direct Remote ID over Wi-Fi beacon, and you upload your operator registration number in DJI Fly under Safety > UAS Remote Identification.

Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
