Yes. The DJI Air 3 has Standard Remote ID built in, so it meets the FAA rule without an add-on module. It broadcasts automatically from takeoff to shutdown. You just need to register the drone with the FAA and add its serial number to your FAADroneZone account. The serial number is in DJI Fly under Settings > About, on a label inside the battery compartment, and on the box.

Where to find the Air 3 serial number
- In DJI Fly: with the drone connected, open Settings > About. The aircraft serial number (SN) is listed with the firmware versions.
- On the drone: remove the battery and look inside the battery compartment for the serial label.
- On the box: the barcode label on the packaging.
Use the aircraft's serial number, not the controller's or the battery's. The battery has its own serial, which shows in DJI Fly's battery info.
Adding it to your FAA registration
- Go to FAADroneZone at faadronezone-access.faa.gov and log in.
- Recreational: under the recreational (Exception for Limited Recreational Operations) account, add the Air 3 to your inventory with its serial number. One registration number covers all your recreational drones.
- Part 107: register the Air 3 as its own drone ($5) and enter the serial number.
- Mark your FAA registration number on the outside of the drone.
The fee is $5 and registration lasts 3 years. More detail in FAA registration.
How the Air 3 meets the rules
From DJI's compliance information for the Air 3:
- It broadcasts Remote ID messages from takeoff until it shuts down.
- Before takeoff it runs a Remote ID self-test, and it won't take off if the test fails.
- It monitors Remote ID in flight and shows an alert in DJI Fly if something fails.
- The RC-N2 has no GPS of its own, so your phone supplies the pilot location. Keep DJI Fly in the foreground and allow it precise location access.
That last point trips people up. If your phone's location is off or DJI Fly is in the background, Remote ID can't report where you are. The DJI RC 2 has its own GNSS.
Remote ID error on the Air 3?
- Allow DJI Fly precise location, and keep it open on screen.
- Turn on the phone's GPS and give it a few seconds to lock.
- Update aircraft firmware, controller firmware and DJI Fly.
- Restart the drone, controller and app.
If the self-test keeps failing, see DJI Remote ID error or contact our repair team.
Do you have to use it?
Yes, for any drone that must be registered, which includes the Air 3 at 720 g. The only exception is flying inside an FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA). There's no setting to turn the broadcast off in the US. See Remote ID explained and which DJI drones have Remote ID.
Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
Every DJI Air 3 we sell has Standard Remote ID built in. Register before your first flight.
