Does the DJI Avata 2 have Remote ID? Serial number and FAA registration

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Yes. The DJI Avata 2 has Standard Remote ID built in and meets the FAA rule in 14 CFR Part 89 with no add-on module. It broadcasts automatically from takeoff to shutdown. At about 377 g it must be registered with the FAA ($5, valid 3 years), and you add its serial number to your FAADroneZone registration. One catch is unique to FPV kits: the goggles and RC Motion 3 have no GPS, so a phone running DJI Fly has to be connected to report your location.

Avata 2 Remote ID setup
The Avata 2 broadcasts Remote ID by itself. With goggles and a motion controller, your phone supplies the pilot location, so keep DJI Fly open.

Where to find the Avata 2 serial number

  • In the goggles: press the 5D button and open Settings > About. DJI's manual says this page shows device information, including serial numbers and linked devices.
  • On the packaging: the barcode label on the retail box usually lists the aircraft serial (SN).
  • DJI support pages and Care Refresh lookups also ask for this number, so save it somewhere safe.

Use the aircraft serial number, not the goggles', controller's or battery's. DJI asks you to type the digit 0, not the letter O, and no spaces.

Adding it to your FAA registration

  1. Log in at FAADroneZone.
  2. Recreational: in your recreational (Exception for Limited Recreational Operations) account, add the Avata 2 with its serial number. One registration number covers all your recreational drones.
  3. Part 107: register the Avata 2 as its own aircraft and enter the serial.
  4. Mark your FAA registration number on the outside of the drone.

The fee is $5 and registration lasts 3 years. Step by step in FAA registration.

How the Avata 2 meets the rule

From the FAR Remote ID section of DJI's Avata 2 manual:

  • It broadcasts Remote ID messages from takeoff until shutdown.
  • It runs a pre-flight self-test and can't take off if the test fails. Results show in the goggles or DJI Fly.
  • It monitors Remote ID during flight and raises an alarm if something fails.
  • RC Motion 3 and FPV Remote Controller 3 have no built-in GNSS. DJI says a phone or tablet must be connected as the location source, with DJI Fly running in the foreground and allowed to use precise location.

Remote ID warning? Try these in order

  1. Connect your phone to the goggles and open DJI Fly. Keep it on screen.
  2. Allow DJI Fly precise location and turn on location services.
  3. Restart the drone, goggles, controller and app.
  4. Update the firmware on everything. See Avata 2 firmware update.
  5. Try a different phone with GPS.

Can you turn Remote ID off?

Not in the US. Every drone that must be registered has to broadcast Remote ID unless you fly inside an FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA). Outside the US, DJI Fly applies local rules. In Europe the Avata 2 is a C1 aircraft, and you upload your operator number in DJI Fly under System Settings > Safety > UAS Remote Identification.

The rest of the rules

Remote ID is one piece. Recreational pilots also need the free TRUST certificate, and in goggles you need a visual observer beside you. Read Avata 2 license and Remote ID explained.

Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.

Every DJI Avata 2 we sell has Standard Remote ID built in. Register it before your first flight.
