Does the DJI Flip have Remote ID? Serial number and FAA registration

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

No. The DJI Flip doesn't have Standard Remote ID declared with the FAA. It isn't on the FAA's public list of Remote ID declarations of compliance (we checked in October 2026), while DJI's Mini 3, Mini 4 Pro and Mini 5 Pro are. For recreational flying that's not a problem: the Flip weighs under 249 g, so hobby pilots in the US don't have to register it or broadcast Remote ID. It matters only if you want to fly it for work under Part 107.

DJI Flip and Remote ID in the US
Under 250 g, recreational pilots don't need to register the Flip or broadcast Remote ID. Part 107 flying needs registration and Remote ID, which the Flip doesn't have built in.

Why there's no Remote ID on the Flip

The FAA's Remote ID rule (14 CFR Part 89) applies to drones that must be registered. Recreational drones under 250 g don't, so DJI didn't need to build Standard Remote ID into the Flip for hobby use. DJI's heavier drones, like the Mavic 3 Classic, carry an "FAR Remote ID Compliance" section in their manuals; the Flip's manual has none.

You can check any drone yourself on the FAA's Remote ID declaration list.

Recreational flying: what you still need

  • No registration while it stays under 250 g.
  • No Remote ID.
  • The free TRUST certificate, carried with you. See TRUST test.
  • Normal rules: 400 ft maximum, visual line of sight, airspace authorization near airports through LAANC. See drone under 250 g rules.

Don't add weight to the Flip (stickers, mounts, lights) that pushes it to 250 g or more. At that point it would need registration and Remote ID even for fun.

Part 107: the Flip needs extra steps

Under Part 107, every drone must be registered and broadcast Remote ID, whatever it weighs. With the Flip, your options are:

  1. Fit a Remote ID broadcast module. It works, but the module adds weight to a 249 g drone with full propeller guards, which affects flight time and handling.
  2. Fly only inside an FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA), usually a flying club field. That rules out most paid jobs.

If you'll do paid work, a drone with built-in Remote ID is simpler. The DJI Mini 4 Pro and DJI Mini 5 Pro both have it and stay under 250 g. More in Remote ID explained and Part 107.

Where to find the Flip's serial number

  • In DJI Fly: with the drone connected, open the settings menu and go to About. The aircraft serial number (SN) is listed there.
  • On the box: the barcode label on the packaging.

Use the aircraft serial, not the controller's or battery's. You'll want it for DJI support, warranty claims and DJI Care Refresh. If you register the Flip for Part 107 with a broadcast module, the FAA asks for the module's Remote ID serial number.

Registering the Flip anyway

You can register a sub-250 g drone voluntarily at FAADroneZone ($5, valid 3 years). Registration alone doesn't satisfy Part 107, though; you still need Remote ID broadcast. See FAA registration.

Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
