DJI's Mavic 3 Pro bundles all include a controller: the standard kit comes with the DJI RC, and the Fly More and Cine Premium Combos come with the DJI RC or DJI RC Pro. "Drone only" Mavic 3 Pro listings are usually units split from a kit or resold. That only makes sense if you already own a compatible controller, because the Mavic 3 Pro can't fly from a phone alone.

What a drone-only Mavic 3 Pro needs to fly
- A compatible controller. DJI lists the DJI RC, DJI RC Pro and DJI RC-N1. The newer RC 2, RC-N3 and RC Pro 2 don't work. See Mavic 3 Pro controllers.
- At least one battery. The Mavic 3 Series Intelligent Flight Battery (5,000 mAh, 77 Wh). It's shared with the Mavic 3 Classic, so batteries from either drone work.
- A charger. DJI recommends its 65W Portable Charger, the 100W USB-C Power Adapter, or another USB-C PD/PPS charger of 60 W or more. You can charge through the drone's USB-C port.
- Propellers. Mavic 3 Low-Noise Propellers (9453F). Make sure a full set comes with the drone.
- A microSD card if you'll shoot much video. The drone has 8 GB built in. See Mavic 3 Pro SD card.
Checks before buying a drone-only unit
- Serial number and activation. Ask for the aircraft serial number. A unit still tied to someone else's DJI account, or with an open insurance or loss claim, can cause problems.
- Region. A unit imported from another country may not get US warranty service. See DJI warranty in the USA.
- Crash history. Look at the gimbal, arms and motors. Gimbal and arm repairs on this three-camera drone are not cheap. See Mavic 3 Pro repair.
- Care Refresh. DJI Care Refresh must be bought for a new, unactivated drone or within 48 hours of activation, so a used drone-only unit usually can't get it.
The cheapest complete option
Our standard Mavic 3 Pro kit is $2,419 and includes the aircraft, the DJI RC, one battery, the 65W charger and spare props. Unless a drone-only deal is far below that and you already own a DJI RC, RC Pro or RC-N1, the kit is the safer buy: new, US warranty, and eligible for Care Refresh.
If you want to fly longer than one 43-minute battery, compare the add-on cost with the Mavic 3 Pro Fly More Combo. Spares we stock: Mavic 3 Series battery ($175) and the ND filter set ($197).
Before the first flight
At 958 g the Mavic 3 Pro must be registered with the FAA ($5, valid 3 years), and its built-in Remote ID must be linked to your registration with the drone's serial number. Recreational pilots also need the free TRUST certificate. See Mavic 3 Pro license.
Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
