Which app does the DJI Mini 3 use? DJI Fly setup guide

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The DJI Mini 3 uses the DJI Fly app. It doesn't work with DJI GO 4 or DJI Mimo. On iPhone, get DJI Fly from the App Store. On Android, download it from DJI's website, because it isn't on Google Play. If your Mini 3 came with the DJI RC screen controller, DJI Fly is already installed and you don't need your phone to fly.

Do you need DJI Fly on your phone?
DJI's Mini 3 manual lists the RC-N1 and DJI RC as its controllers. The Mini 3 can't be flown from a phone alone.

Download DJI Fly

Device Where to get it
iPhone / iPad App Store, search "DJI Fly"
Android phone APK from the DJI Fly download page
DJI RC Preinstalled; update when prompted

The Mini 3 manual lists Android 7.0 and iOS 11.0 as minimums, but current DJI Fly versions need newer systems. Use the requirements on DJI's download page. On Android, your phone will ask permission to install from your browser the first time: our Android install guide walks through it. If the app crashes or lags, see DJI Fly compatible phones.

Connect the RC-N1 and your phone

  1. Take the control sticks out of their storage slots and screw them in.
  2. Pull out the phone holder.
  3. Choose the cable that fits your phone. Lightning, Micro USB and USB-C cables come in the box.
  4. Connect the end without the controller logo to your phone, and seat the phone securely.
  5. On Android, if a USB prompt appears, choose charge only. DJI says other options can stop it connecting.
  6. Power on the controller and drone, then open DJI Fly.

Using the DJI RC instead? Mount the sticks, press then press and hold the power button, connect to Wi-Fi and follow the prompts to activate it. It needs internet.

Activate the Mini 3

  1. Remove the gimbal protector and unfold the rear arms first, then the front arms.
  2. Power on the controller and drone.
  3. Follow DJI Fly's activation prompts. You need an internet connection.
  4. The drone binds to the controller automatically. If that fails, follow the prompts to bind it.
  5. Update firmware when asked. See Mini 3 firmware update.

Stay logged in

DJI limits flight to 30 m (98.4 ft) high and 50 m (164 ft) away if the drone isn't connected to or logged into the app. That limit applies to any app that flies DJI drones.

What DJI Fly does on the Mini 3

  • Live view and camera settings, including the 48 MP photo mode and one-tap portrait mode
  • QuickShots (Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix, Boomerang) and Panorama
  • QuickTransfer to your phone at up to 25 MB/s, per DJI
  • RTH altitude and Home Point settings. See Mini 3 home point
  • Firmware updates, and Reset All Settings or Clear All Data under About

The Mini 3 doesn't have ActiveTrack, Hyperlapse or Waypoint Flight in DJI Fly. See Mini 3 waypoints for workarounds.

Third-party apps

DJI's Mobile SDK lists the Mini 3 as supported on Android, so some third-party apps can fly it. Check the app maker's compatibility list before you buy one. Compare options in DJI Fly vs Litchi.
