How to update DJI Mini 3 firmware (and fix failed updates)

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

To update a DJI Mini 3, power on the controller and drone, connect your phone (RC-N1) or the DJI RC to the internet, and tap the update prompt in DJI Fly. You can also update from a computer with DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series). In October 2026, the newest Mini 3 release notes on DJI's downloads page list aircraft firmware v01.00.0500 (May 28, 2024), which added Remote ID support for some regions and fixed known issues.

Mini 3 firmware
From the newest DJI Mini 3 release notes on DJI's downloads page and the Mini 3 user manual, as of October 2026.

Before you start

  • Charge: DJI's manual says both the drone and controller need at least 20%. More is better.
  • Link first: DJI Fly can't update the drone unless the controller is linked to it.
  • Internet: keep the phone or DJI RC online for the whole download.
  • Time: about 10 minutes. A limp gimbal, blinking lights and a reboot are normal.

Method 1: DJI Fly

  1. Power on the controller, then the Mini 3, and open DJI Fly.
  2. Tap the firmware update notice and follow the steps.
  3. Don't close the app, lock the phone or power anything off until it finishes.
  4. After it reboots, confirm the version under settings, then About.

How to update the battery firmware

There's no separate battery download. Battery firmware is updated through the drone. After updating, insert each spare battery, power on with DJI Fly connected and accept any update prompt. Repeat for every battery, including any Intelligent Flight Battery Plus.

"Aircraft module firmware versions do not match"

This message means one part of the system, often a battery or the controller, isn't on the same firmware as the rest. To fix it:

  1. Restart the drone, controller and DJI Fly.
  2. Accept any update DJI Fly offers, with the battery that triggered the message inserted.
  3. Repeat with each battery.
  4. Still showing? Refresh the firmware in DJI Assistant 2 (below), then update the controller too.

Method 2: DJI Assistant 2

  1. Install DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) from the Mini 3 downloads page and log in.
  2. Power on the drone and connect its USB-C port to the computer within 20 seconds.
  3. Select DJI Mini 3, click Firmware Updates, choose the version.
  4. Wait for the download and install. Don't unplug the cable.
  5. For the controller, power it on, connect it by USB-C, select it and repeat.

If the update fails

  1. Restart the drone, controller and DJI Fly (or Assistant 2) and retry. DJI's release notes give this as the first step.
  2. Charge both above 20%.
  3. Use stronger internet, and don't switch apps mid-download.
  4. Update DJI Fly from the App Store or DJI's site.
  5. Free up phone storage so the package can download.
  6. Try Assistant 2 with a data cable (not charge-only) and a different USB port.
  7. Won't boot or keeps looping? Contact our repair team.

Release history

Date Firmware What changed
May 28, 2024 v01.00.0500 Remote ID support for some regions, fixes
Jan 25, 2024 v01.00.0410 US Remote ID turns on automatically with the Battery Plus

The Remote ID change matters: with the standard battery the Mini 3 is under 250 g, but with the Battery Plus it's over, so it must be registered and broadcast Remote ID. See remote ID explained and drones under 250 g.

Still supported?

The Mini 3 was FCC-authorized long before the December 2025 Covered List change, so it stays legal to own and fly. See Is DJI banned in the US?.
