Is the DJI Mini 4 Pro waterproof? Flying in rain and over water

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

No. The DJI Mini 4 Pro is not waterproof or water-resistant, and DJI gives it no IP rating. DJI's FAQ says to avoid contact with water, and the manual says not to fly in rain, snow or fog. If it starts raining mid-flight, return and land as soon as possible, then wait until the drone is completely dry inside and out before flying again. DJI Care Refresh for the Mini 4 Pro does cover water damage.

Mini 4 Pro and water
DJI says the Mini 4 Pro is not waterproof. Over water is allowed, but keep at least 3 m of height and don't rely on the vision sensors.

Can you fly the Mini 4 Pro in the rain?

You shouldn't. The drone's body isn't sealed, its motors are open to the air and it carries electronics and sensors exposed to the elements. DJI also says to operate the aircraft, controller, battery and chargers only in a dry environment. Water can short a circuit or corrode connectors, and damage can appear days later.

Rain also affects flying:

  • Water on the vision sensor glass can affect obstacle sensing; DJI says to wipe the sensors clean.
  • Drops on the lens ruin footage.
  • DJI says not to fly when visibility is under 100 m.

The controllers aren't waterproof either; DJI notes the control sticks aren't.

Flying the Mini 4 Pro over water

Over water is legal and popular, but it's where many drones are lost.

  • Stay at least 3 m (10 ft) above water, as DJI recommends.
  • Don't trust the sensors. DJI warns the downward vision system may not work properly near water, and the drone may not avoid water below it when landing. APAS may not work properly over water, and water and glass are hard for the vision sensors in general.
  • Turn back early. Never let a low-battery landing happen over water.
  • Home Point on land. Don't take off from a moving boat; DJI says not to take off from moving objects.
  • Salt spray is on DJI's list of environments to avoid. Wipe down the drone after beach flights.

Will it float?

No. The Mini 4 Pro will sink. Recovery is often impossible, and a submerged drone is usually a loss.

If your Mini 4 Pro gets wet

  1. Power it off and remove the battery right away.
  2. Don't power it on to test it. DJI says turning on a drone that has fallen in water may cause permanent component damage.
  3. Wipe the outside and camera dry with a soft, absorbent cloth.
  4. Let it dry thoroughly somewhere warm and dry.
  5. Retire any battery that was submerged, swollen or smells odd.
  6. If it was submerged, send it in for inspection. See drone fell in water and repair.
