How to use the Osmo Pocket 3 or Action 5 Pro as a webcam

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

To use an Osmo Pocket 3 or Osmo Action 5 Pro as a webcam, power it on, connect it to your computer with a USB-C cable, and tap Webcam on the camera's screen. It then works as a normal webcam: choose it as the camera in Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, OBS or vMix. DJI's manuals describe exactly this, with no extra software. The Pocket 3's gimbal keeps you framed smoothly, which makes it a strong webcam for calls and streams.

DJI Osmo as a webcam
From DJI's Osmo Pocket 3 and Osmo Action 5 Pro manuals. No driver or app is needed; the camera appears as a standard webcam.

Step by step

  1. Power on the camera (Pocket 3: rotate the screen or press shutter/record).
  2. Connect it to the computer's USB port with a USB-C data cable. The camera enters USB mode.
  3. Tap Webcam on the camera screen. "Webcam" appears at the bottom.
  4. In your app's video settings, select the DJI camera.
  5. Adjust the picture on the camera:
    • Pocket 3: swipe left from the right edge to set exposure, white balance and focus mode.
    • Action 5 Pro: tap the Image Parameter Settings icon on the right to set exposure, white balance and FOV.

Pressing shutter/record while in webcam mode records on the camera too; you can play it back after leaving webcam mode.

Pocket 3 vs Action 5 Pro as a webcam

Osmo Pocket 3 Osmo Action 5 Pro
Sensor 1-inch 1/1.3-inch
Stabilization 3-axis mechanical gimbal Electronic
Webcam picture controls Exposure, white balance, focus mode Exposure, white balance, FOV
Best for Desk calls, streams, talking head Wide shots, mounts, POV streams

The Pocket 3's 1-inch sensor helps in dim rooms. The Action 5 Pro's wide FOV fits a whole room or a mounted POV angle.

Setting it up in OBS or vMix

  • OBS: Sources > + > Video Capture Device, then pick the camera.
  • vMix: Add Input > Camera, then pick the camera.
  • Set the canvas to match the camera's output, and test audio separately.

For live streaming without a computer, use DJI Mimo instead: see live stream with DJI Osmo and drones.

Better webcam results

  • Light your face from the front with a window or lamp.
  • Mount it at eye level. The Pocket 3 fits small tripods.
  • Lock exposure and white balance on the camera so the picture doesn't shift.
  • Use a real mic. A DJI Mic 2 or a USB mic beats a built-in mic across a desk.
  • Watch the heat on long sessions. See Osmo Pocket 3 overheating.

Webcam not showing up?

  1. Make sure you tapped Webcam, not file transfer.
  2. Use a data cable; charge-only cables won't work.
  3. Try another USB port and skip hubs.
  4. Close other apps that might be holding the camera.
  5. Update the camera firmware in DJI Mimo.

See Osmo Pocket 3 not recognized on computer or Osmo Action 5 Pro not connecting.

Can I use HDMI instead?

Not on the Pocket 3. DJI says its USB-C port can't send live video over HDMI. Webcam mode is the way in. See Osmo Pocket 3 HDMI and external monitors.
