Osmo Action 5 Pro vs Osmo Pocket 3: which DJI camera for you?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Get the Osmo Pocket 3 if you vlog, travel, film people talking or shoot indoors and at night: its 1-inch sensor on a 3-axis mechanical gimbal gives smoother, cleaner, more cinematic video with natural background blur. Get the Osmo Action 5 Pro if you film sports, water, bikes or anything that gets wet or bumped: it's waterproof to 20 m, rugged, mounts anywhere and has a 155° ultra-wide view. They're built for different jobs, so pick by where you'll film.

Pocket 3 or Action 5 Pro?
The Pocket 3 makes better-looking people and low-light video. The Action 5 Pro survives water, crashes and mounting where a gimbal can't go.

Why the Pocket 3 looks better for vlogs

  • Bigger sensor, brighter lens. A 1-inch sensor with an f/2.0 lens gathers more light than the action cam's smaller sensor and f/2.8 lens, so evening and indoor video is cleaner.
  • Natural perspective. The 20 mm lens doesn't stretch faces the way an ultra-wide action lens does at arm's length.
  • Real gimbal. Mechanical stabilization doesn't crop the image, and you can pan and tilt the camera smoothly with the joystick.
  • Face tracking. ActiveTrack keeps you framed as you move. See Pocket 3 ActiveTrack.

Why the Action 5 Pro wins outdoors

  • Water. 20 m deep without a case, 60 m with the waterproof case. The Pocket 3 isn't waterproof at all.
  • Toughness and mounting. Magnetic quick-release mounts for helmets, handlebars, chests and boards. A gimbal camera isn't made for impacts or vibration.
  • Battery and storage. DJI rates it at up to 240 minutes, and 47 GB of built-in storage backs up your microSD card.
  • Ultra-wide view that captures the whole scene in POV shots.

What they share

Both pair directly with up to two DJI Mic transmitters without a receiver, use the DJI Mimo app, and record 10-bit D-Log M for color grading. Both are on sale in the US because they were authorized before the FCC's December 2025 changes; see is DJI Osmo banned.

Can one camera do both?

Not well. The Pocket 3 can ride in a car or on a slow walk, but it shouldn't get wet or take hits. The Action 5 Pro can vlog with its front screen, but faces look wider and low light is noisier. Many creators own both: the Pocket 3 for talking and travel, an action camera for sports.
