Osmo Multifunctional Battery Case 3 vs Battery Case 2

UPDATED NOVEMBER 2026

On paper, the Osmo Multifunctional Battery Case 3 and Battery Case 2 are nearly the same. Both hold three batteries and two microSD cards, both fast charge the batteries, and both work as a power bank for your phone. They weigh 84 g and 83 g. DJI lists the same core cameras for both: Osmo Action 6, Action 5 Pro, Action 4, Action 3 and Osmo 360. If you already own Case 2, there's no clear reason to upgrade. If you're buying new, get Case 3, the current model.

DJI's UK listing for Case 3 also names the Osmo 360 II. We haven't seen it on a Case 2 listing.

What DJI hasn't said

DJI's store pages for both cases leave out:

  • Charging time
  • Input and output wattage
  • A list of changes from Case 2 to Case 3

So any claim that Case 3 charges faster or has a stronger power bank output isn't backed by published DJI specs. We'll update this page if DJI publishes them.

What both cases do

  • Store: three Osmo Action batteries and two microSD cards in one pocket-sized case.
  • Charge: plug the case into a USB-C charger to charge the batteries inside. Retailers describe all three bays charging together.
  • Power bank: with batteries inside, the case can charge a phone or other small device.

That's the real value of either case. You stop carrying loose batteries and cards, and you can top up a phone at the end of the day.

Which batteries to put in it

The Osmo Action Extreme Battery Plus (1950 mAh) fits both cases and every camera on the list. It's the standard battery for the Action 5 Pro and works in the Action 4 and Action 3 too. See our Extreme Battery Plus guide for runtime.

Which should you buy?

  • You already own Case 2: keep it. It does the same job.
  • You're buying now: Case 3 is the current model and the one DJI is listing alongside its newest cameras.
  • You shoot with an Osmo 360 II: Case 3 is the one we've seen listed for it.
  • You own the original Osmo Action 3 battery case: DJI's newer cases are listed for more cameras. Check yours supports the batteries you use.

Tips

  • Charge from a wall charger rather than a laptop port, which may supply less power.
  • Keep the microSD slots for your formatted spares, so you're never caught with a full card.
  • In the cold, keep the case in an inside pocket.

Battery Case 3 is available from $98. Shop the Osmo Multifunctional Battery Case 3, see Osmo Action 5 Pro accessories, or browse accessories.
