Osmo Mobile 6 not level or not stabilizing: calibration fixes

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

An Osmo Mobile 6 that isn't level is usually caused by the magnetic phone clamp sitting off-center or misaligned on the mount. Center the clamp on your phone, line up its marks with the gimbal's mount, then run Gimbal Auto Calibration and Horizontal Gimbal Adjustment in DJI Mimo with the gimbal on a flat surface. That fixes most crooked or drifting footage.

Level an Osmo Mobile 6
DJI's own fix order for a tilted Osmo Mobile 6: check the clamp first, then calibrate in DJI Mimo with the gimbal on a flat surface.

Step 1: fix the clamp

DJI's FAQ starts here, and it's the most common cause:

  • Center the clamp on the middle of the phone, with equal distance between the clamp arms.
  • Point the camera mark toward the phone's camera.
  • Align the marks on the clamp with the marks on the gimbal's mounting plate.
  • Watch the status light. If it pulses red, the magnets aren't aligned. Reposition the clamp.

Phone cases are fine. DJI says you can keep your case on.

Step 2: check the weight

The Osmo Mobile 6 supports phones from 170 to 290 g. A heavy phone plus a lens, light or mic can be too much. DJI says the total must stay under 290 g, and to use counterweights on the M3 screw hole if you add a lens or microphone. A phone under 170 g is below the supported range and may not balance well either.

Step 3: calibrate in DJI Mimo

Connect the gimbal to DJI Mimo, open gimbal settings, and run:

  1. Gimbal Auto Calibration. DJI says it reduces drift from nearby magnetic interference or user error. Set the gimbal on a flat surface on its tripod, and don't touch it during calibration.
  2. Horizontal Gimbal Adjustment. Make sure the phone clamp is level first, then fine-tune the horizon until it's straight.

Calibrate away from speakers, laptops, metal tables and other magnets.

Keeps moving or drifting

  • Follow mode is working as designed. In Follow mode the phone follows your hand's pan and tilt. For a fixed horizon and less movement, switch to Tilt Locked with the M button.
  • Lock it on demand. Press and hold the trigger to enter Lock mode; the gimbal stops following until you release it.
  • Recenter. Press the trigger twice.
  • Joystick drift usually means a setting, not a fault. Check Joystick Control Direction and Invert Joystick in DJI Mimo.

Not straight in portrait mode

Press the Switch button twice to switch between landscape and portrait. If portrait shots lean, redo Horizontal Gimbal Adjustment in that orientation.

Still not level

Update the firmware in DJI Mimo, restart the gimbal and calibrate again. If it still tilts, shakes, or a motor buzzes with a correctly mounted phone under 290 g, start a repair.
