How to set up and use the Osmo Mobile 6

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

To set up the Osmo Mobile 6, unfold it (it powers on automatically), stretch the magnetic clamp across the middle of your phone with the camera mark toward the phone's camera, and snap it onto the gimbal so the dots line up. Then connect to the device named OM6 in the DJI Mimo app and activate it once with an internet connection. No balancing is needed.

Osmo Mobile 6 setup
From DJI's Osmo Mobile 6 manual. The status light pulses red if the clamp isn't aligned; first activation in DJI Mimo needs an internet connection.

Attaching the phone

  1. Unfold the gimbal. It powers on by itself. If not, hold the M button.
  2. Put the clamp in the middle of the phone, arms evenly spaced, camera mark pointing toward the camera. The clamp stretches to fit.
  3. Add the anti-slip pads to the clamp if your phone slides.
  4. Snap it on. Line up the dot on the clamp with the dot on the roll motor. The status light turns yellow or green when aligned; it pulses red if not.

Phones from 170 to 290 g, 67 to 84 mm wide and 6.9 to 10 mm thick fit, case included. See compatible phones.

Connecting to DJI Mimo

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on the phone.
  2. Open DJI Mimo and connect to the device whose name starts with OM6.
  3. Allow the requested permissions. The first connection needs internet to activate the gimbal.

Connect from inside Mimo rather than the phone's Bluetooth menu. More on the app in Osmo Mobile 6 app.

Holding positions

DJI lists four: Upright, Underslung (hold it upside down for low shots), Side Grip (turn it 90°) and Low Position (extend the rod and tilt it). Press the trigger twice to recenter in any of them.

Using the extension rod and tripod

Pull the built-in rod out up to 215 mm and tilt the top 0 to 90° for selfies, groups and low angles. Screw the included grip tripod into the 1/4"-20 port for timelapses and hands-free shots. See extension rod.

Pro tips

  • Modes: Follow for walking, Tilt Locked for smooth pans, FPV for motion, SpinShot for rolls. See modes and tracking.
  • Gesture control: show a palm or V sign to start tracking or recording.
  • Calibrate in Mimo (Gimbal Auto Calibration, Horizontal Gimbal Adjustment) if shots look tilted.
  • Walk smoothly: bend your knees and keep your elbow in.

Folding it away

Power off, retract the rod fully, rotate the pan and tilt axes and fold so the mark on the arm slots into the handle, then rotate the pan axis to lock. It folds to 189 × 84.5 × 44 mm.
