How much does the DJI Air 3S weigh? (and why it matters)

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The DJI Air 3S weighs 724 g (0.724 kg, or about 1.6 lb) at takeoff, which includes the battery and propellers. The battery alone is about 247 g. Because it's over 250 g, the Air 3S must be registered with the FAA ($5 for 3 years) and broadcast Remote ID, even for recreational flying.

DJI's published weights for the Air 3S. Takeoff weight includes the battery and propellers. Accessories like the prop guard add more.

Weight breakdown

Item Weight
Air 3S takeoff weight (with battery and props) 724 g (25.5 oz, 1.6 lb)
Intelligent Flight Battery About 247 g
Aircraft without battery (approx.) About 477 g
Each 8747F propeller 6.4 g
ND filter (each) 2.9 g
Propeller guard 43 g
EU max takeoff mass (C1) 740 g

The "without battery" figure is our subtraction from DJI's numbers, not an official spec.

Size

DJI lists the Air 3S at 214 x 101 x 89 mm folded (about 8.4 x 4 x 3.5 in) and 266 x 325 x 106 mm unfolded, without propellers. It fits in a small camera bag or the Fly More shoulder bag.

Why the weight matters

FAA registration. The 250 g line decides whether recreational pilots must register. At 724 g the Air 3S is well over it, so register at FAADroneZone, mark the number on the drone and add the serial for Remote ID. See FAA registration and Air 3S Remote ID.

Wind. More mass helps in wind. The Air 3S is rated for 12 m/s (about 27 mph), more than the sub-250 g Mini drones. See Air 3S wind resistance.

Europe. The Air 3S is a C1-class drone with a 740 g maximum takeoff mass. Adding non-approved accessories can take it out of class. Read flying a drone in Europe as a US tourist.

Travel. Light enough for any carry-on. The 62.5 Wh battery is under the 100 Wh airline limit, so no approval is needed. Spares go in your carry-on. See traveling with a drone.

Air 3S vs other DJI drones

Drone Takeoff weight
Mini 5 Pro (standard battery) 249 g
Air 3 720 g
Air 3S 724 g
Mavic 4 Pro 1.06 kg

If you want to skip registration for hobby flying, a sub-250 g Mini is the way. See Mini 5 Pro vs Air 3S.

Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
